I'm still planning to be there. Not sure how much in over my head I'm gonna be, but I'll know soon enough.

sweet! glad you're still in, you'll have a blast ... have you ridden Southwick before? you've raced a bunch so that part will be familiar, the deep sand is the real challenge.
and speaking of beaches, mounted the paddle last night :hellyeah:

Cheater!
Damn! That's a tire right thar
I don't think the paddles are deep enough for Southwick.
awesome! sandy traction!
sand is so fun if you can rail...bumpy but soft turning in the corners with rear wheel steering
that's the tire i bought off Gary a while back. i used to love the Pirelli version but they don't offer it in an 18", i assume the Dunlop will be just as nice. it's TALL though, with the Fatty front and this thing out back my bike looks like a BW250 :spit:
is Jeff still going? not sure if you'll see each other but there's a buyer right there.
Never been to southwick. Rode wareham once or twice though. Hopefully that's kinda similar. Raced a bunch is an overstatement though :D
Think I'm gonna be running a cheater tire too. It just looks a lot different and probably awful in sand.
Does anyone know if they'll be letting anyone ride on Friday? Or is that only a possibility at the start of practice Saturday morning? I'd love to get a few laps in Friday afternoon.
i haven't ridden Wareham but i've heard it's sandy ... Southwick is BIG :D ... by racing experience i meant you have at least been in a pack of riders from the start line > on. this event is all about goodTimes so the range in 'talent' is all over the place ... for the novice classes at least.
no riding Friday and no entrance before 3pm. the track is usually gloriously groomed Friday before Saturdays Fun ... practice in the AM is epic, the track is like a giant rollercoaster ... we like to do a track walk Friday evening to get the toes in the sand and connect with it's soul.
cant wait!
btw, Alden, i zapped you a text about pit location if you're interested in setting up with us. i'm sure Smutty already has the deets.
side note: most MX tracks do not allow kickstands, not sure if The Wick or Dave enforces this but i always remove mine anyway.
EDIT: same goes for metal barkbusters
Never got around to getting my fo'fiddy back together :(
I'm inclined to just hook up my shit box camper and come and drink for the weekend.
doo eet ... and bring your gear. once you smell the sweet smells of failure, you'll want IN. :D
a buddy of mine who hadnt ridden for prob 20 years came out to spectate one time and was ready to throw gear on and rip it up. hilarious.
FYI, race order has been posted

Out. Been trying to get these fork seals in for 2 hours now. My driver was the wrong size and tried to use the old seals cut in half with no luck. I'll wait to get the right driver this week.
bummer on forks, Smutty. we missed you out there!
even though attendance was really low, had a total blast as usual. weather was amazing and the track was in the best shape i think i've ever ridden! almost zero chop until the end of the day but never bad. that's rare for Southwick. so choice.
hats off to the crew, not all of them are on here but you guys rode awesome! nice work out there :beerbang:
Davo knows how to put a good time together, i'm sad it's the last.
didn't take that many pics but here's a few.. .
THIS is the spot to pit, way back on right-hand side near JDay loop. Tyler was the first one through the gates and scored it for us. breeze and shade all day under the trees.

not sure when the automated irrigation system went in but it's super nice. they watered the track through Friday night. mint, mint, mint.

hard to see in this pic but the far back middle shows the new tunnel jump. it looked massive walking it but it's a nice addition. they put it right before the Legion spectator jump.

no pics but the right-hander before Buckley Berm got a few changes as well, they pushed it further back and the run up to it was longer. a double line formed pretty quickly, that was a nice change. better flow than the last time i was there.
rest of the track was the same. still amazed how great the conditions were. look forward to heading back for a practice session.
Signing up for 4 classes worked out, but my legs still feel like someone injected concrete. Although I never placed very high, I finished all 8 motos. The turn out ended up being kinda perfect for me given my limited experience at MX. I doubt the conditions could have been better. And thanks to the experienced guys for showing me the ropes. I was a little nervous about what I was getting myself in to the day before. Ended up having a great time.
My WR was like riding an 80's Lincoln over a bumpy backroad. According to the Race-Tech calc I'm in the right spring rate (.46 and 5.4kg), even if I was on a YZ for MX. Playing around with the calculator inputs last night, it'd take quite a bit of weight or marking myself as a 'pro' to get it to recommend the next size up. I was thinking about going another size up last weekend after some scary bottom out moments and this weekend kinda hammered that home. Cranking up the compression clickers helped on the MX track quite a bit, but that doesn't work on the trail because I don't want the initial part of the stroke to be so stiff.
