Dude!
Who's bringing the oxygen tank for the marathon runner?
Well, I "fixed" the subframe mount thread with a helicoil. It's not optimal because it is open at both ends, so the coil has no where to bottom out. And of course, I couldn't drill it straight cause I ain't no machinist. But I DID get the coil in there. To secure it I put some loctite on the threads before inserting the coil. It seems more or less secure, but we shall see...
I also found out why my bike is always popping on decel. The damn lip of the airbox boot was slightly folded where it meets the carb. Couldn't see it til I had the subframe off. Grrr... Well, at least I did find it. Put a fresh air filter in. Should be good to goooooo!
Can't wait to get my toes in the sand!
just got in from working on the bike as well, standard maint. stuffs, should be all set tomorrow afternoon. still need to get my damn forms notarized though!
which loctite did you use? red? bet it will hold fine but good thing you found it.
hmm, bummer on the airbox boot. was it letting in dirt?
Beta 200RR
All I had was blue loctite, but after the race if things are loose I'll get some red.
Good question about the dirt... prolly a tad bit of dust. I think it was pretty tight as I had been checking it and tightening the clamp when searching for the cause of the pop. It was very hard to even discover, so I doubt it was suck much air/dirt. I'm not even SURE there was a leak as I haven't run the bike yet. Anyway I have a new top end ready to go in. Compression is still OK, and valves are in spec and haven't moved, so meh... not gonna sweat it.
yeah, i wouldnt sweat it either. especially with the new top end ready to go. finally grabbed the last gasket i needed for the 4T and pipe for the 2T so i'll be doing both of my bikes after Southwick as well. cant wait to be done with that crap.
about the pop, it's interesting that my bike pops on decel when the filter is dirty. ive only experienced lean pop on various bikes, never a rich pop, but it makes it easy to know when the filter needs attention (i dont clean it after every ride, but should)
Beta 200RR
so do i, but i always feel bad about it ...if the conditions cake the filter. ive got no excuse after going to No-Toil. love that shit
Beta 200RR
I've got an exhaust mount that's helicoiled, same situation it is an open boss, nothing to bottom against. Helicoil says not to use loctite, it should just stay in place. So far, no issues. I've got to check my filter... and find my NoToil kit... good thing I've got two new pre-oiled NoToil's on standby.
note to self: don't wait until the last minute to work on your bike.
hmm, found this stuck to my drain plug magnet. no crazy shavings on any of the screens, oil looked fine, filter fine, been running great, shifting fine. wondering where the hell this came from.

Boy that looks like the head of an allen head bolt that sheered off...
Hmmm... are those pictures effing huge, cause they won't load in my browser (DSL connection). I can only see the top of something that looks brass. Prep the 144?
I bet that happened a while ago, and it is just gear material, but it's hard to say as I can't see it!
I'll post smaller pics in a bit, in garage... it's a bolt of some sort with an inset allen pattern but both sides are smooth and curved, not sheared. BUT one portion of it curves away from the "head". very odd.
I'm finishing prep and will scan through the fiche tonight. dying to know where it's supposed to live
can't ride the 144, no expansion chamber! sold it
Beta 200RR
Damn...you can use mine too.

i'm actually not that worried, hahaa. think i will just run it anyway but hope i can figure it out. i posted on my Husky forum as well. first guess is a bearing retainer bolt.
this has two sides to it, if the flatter side is the 'front' that would mean it's a recessed bolt head of some sort. the curved part is probably just chew.
really appreciate the bike offers though!

yeah, the fun begins it's a risk for sure but shit, it could have happened at the last Stimilon! i rode it there, put it in the basement and didn't ride it again until the two days with you guys. been running mint.
fired right up today, no weird anything. i flushed the coolant, cleaned the filter, dropped the oil and... BAM. hello there.

oh, and yeah, great timing on the FMF 125 pipe sale... the last part of the 165 kit was to snag a custom pipe built from a KTM 200. brand new parts direct from FMF then welded up by the builder i've been working with. that was supposed to ship out this week. wish it was here, i'd throw the sand tire on and run that thing.

the more i stare at this thing, the more i'm thinking it may be some sort of recessed bolt that worked it's way loose... then got clipped by gear teeth and sheared.
scanning through the workshop manual now...

i should start a new thread, sorry to dirty this one up but this may be the answer... bearing retainer bolt. i love Husky peeps!
Beta 200RR
So... which bearing and can you get to it without splitting the motor?
this is the million dollar question i asked that guy if he knows where those are used, it's a small bolt ~5mm allen, ~11mm head... i'm also digging through the shop manual.
