On the way back from the fire road, Warren and I decided to check out the side sections to find something more technical...
we did, lol
his cushy CRF230F had a selective advantage!
the yz250 bucked me all over the place!
obligatory wheelie pic!

love my smokers, but that expansion chamber just asking to get hit
this little hit cost me almost $400 so far
pipe repair was the cheapest part

If that's an orange bike, Trailtech makes a unit that protects the exhaust flange from pipe induced damage.
whoa!!!
how'd you do that?!?
I've fallen plenty (= every ride LOL) and I've bopped that expansion pipe here and there but never that bad!
also saw a full '94 WR250 transmission on fleabay for $179/bo

let him counter a lowball offer of $100 and put 3rd-5th into my spare B motor?

I've seen flange protectors, but I will probably spend the $$ and repair the old one while riding with a new replacement part (It's only listed as part of the cylinder for 04-06 motors but thanks to Cliff's they were able to source it separate for 1/3 of the cost) Problem that they wear out anyway so the thing to do it to mill the flange off completely and weld on a new one made form a 6061, lasts longer than cast OEM piece and I will have a spare
I didn't see it go down but all I can say it was newb rider on a 250 smoker, tricky climb and handful of throttle... when I turned around she was up and laughing, but from what I can tell it was a massive hit in to a large boulder at the top of the trail, bike bounced good 10-12 feet! Luckily she walked (rode) away, had to limp it home with a busted exhaust, but she was eager to ride, real trooper!
So uh the $38 replacement part was JUST the lens...and I needed a replacement socket. Weak.
I might actually return it and just bolt my own signals into the location on the fender...the optics in their lenses sucked anyways
Pre-work run tomorrow...then headed to Beaumont or Joshua tree next weekend...Beaumont is regarded some of the best riding in the country...my friend is out there with his sons banging out big jumps on all natural terrain!

Moto Sundaaaaaaaayyyssssss
My rear brake is adjusted a bit too high...was locking too easily on downhill standing braking
Also getting antsy about doing the rear shock...I cranked up the compression damping and it's still too soft when I stand up, lean back, and try to have the rear do most of the work.
front is actually pretty friggen stiff...when I hit potholes in the hardpack, it translates up to my body pretty hard..I might try reducing the compression damping next ride...whatever change factory connection made really did stiffen it up a bit. Doesn't really handle "well", but at least it doesn't bottom out

The vacant unit on the duplex (er...2 on a lot) I bought doesn't have a garage...but it has this
which fits this...and is locked.
sweet
gonna mount the door so it opens outwards - should leave enough room to make a lil' moto shop for the YZ & shelves to store moto stuff
back unit has a 2 car garage...when that tenant eventually moves out, that's gonna be my spot to store a desert buggy and street bike!

Rental properties time whores...cuttin' into dirty time
Full days off = try to get contractor work done
Finally got a quickie in before work after 3 weeks hiatus...need my fix!
Pavement crossing across creeks were all glossy wet...made for some low traction on knobbies
Weather warming up a bit to feel nice...met 4 other dual sport riders out there today and half a dozen trucks driving the road like a race!
Gotta be careful on fire roads...

Cuz ya know...#bikelife
Turns out my front tire was at 25psi
Dropped it to 15 and didn't notice a difference...huh
Back was sliding all over the place...even at 9psi..might've been conditions
Also...dunno if I am maturing, but smooth atv-wide trails felt a bit boring today LOL
i'll let you know when i finally drop the cash on the 'Where Cars Don't Dare' AdMo Tour. so itchy.. .

don't do it...
1.) the of maintenance/repair will greatly outweigh the initial purchase price
2.) too many variables that can go kablooie w' a bike that old
3.) at that price point there are many other newer bikes w' fewer #2
---------------
I'd only get into something like that if
1.) it was cheaper (price point ~$600), needed NOTHING (starts, brakes, clutches, chain/sprocket, tires blah all there...a $900 bikes turns into a $1,100 bike w' tires/chain/sprockets alone), I could ride it half a dozen times, crash it half a dozen times, then sell it to get all my money bike without it exploding
2.) sentimental value/you've lusted after it since the womb
3.) you don't care/you want it anyways/f everyone else & their KTM kool-aid/learn it the hard way if it doesn't work out...but it's a risk you're willing to take
