    -spare motor (crank spins!)
-2 cylinders (both need re-plating, but just wear! no cracks/chunks missing!)
    -carb
    -----------------------
    $140

Dude just wanted it gone from his garage...he had like 7 ATC's, 3 dirt bikes, quad, dune buggies, etc.

Going to send out each cylinder, and slowly rebuild this motor over the next year as my "B" engine. Only thing I need to swap is the stator for lights

Might throw WR gears into this one

Looks like an aftermarket reed block as well, missing the carb junction.

tbh, I don't know anything about them...until I googled it 15 seconds ago

seems that reed valves are a wear item - when re-building a motor, isn't it good to get new ones?

Yes, which is why you need to ID the reed block as OEM vs a particular aftermarket one to make sure you get the appropriate reeds for it. The Boyseen setup is the only one I'm familiar with that uses an all metal reed block integrated with the intake spigot like that. VForce units use the OEM intake boot and are labeled on the edge. OEM is plastic as well but no edge label and a very different reed layout than the VForce.

yes, and that's a good reminder for the newer 2-stroke owners popping up that you should be checking or replacing the reeds when buying an older bike. i've found chipped petals, good quality VForce carbon, with only a season or two of use. i like to take a peek at mine about once a season, or whenever i have the carb off like over the winter.

    LOL busted

I love when I talk to a random older dude at a grocery store about dirt bikes, hear him say "there's some guy riding a 2stroke around here...I can hear him ripping down the street!"

Then I smile and show him a picture haha

    Re: street legal 2-strokes

    so I'm getting jerked around:

8/6 - bike torn apart by mechanic - ETA 10 day turn around on cylinder
9/16 - mechanic "still waiting on the cylinder" from Millennium. So I call millennium - they can't release the info due to client confidentiality, but said it should typically take 8-10 business days. I tell mechanic to call them. Mechanic says Millennium lost the little baggie that his name/address is in...they should send it now.
10/9 - still waiting on cylinder - should be ready Thursday
10/16 - mechanic is now out of town. No response on when he'll be back. Won't answer calls.

Grrrr....2-1/2 months is WAY too long to rebuild a 2-stroke. I'm not a pro and I finished it in roughly 2-3 weeks.

I'm going to get another LOCAL company to fix one of the 3 spare cylinders I have...LA Sleeve and QandE in Anaheim will both re-sleeve it...but not re-plate it. I heard sleeving sucks, but I don't give a F. I want my bike done...and I don't want to mail it half a country away where I can't show up to push things along before LAB2V. I'll give them *one* cylinder to re-sleeve...and maybe replate the others down the road when I'm not in a rush to do a ride.

Bike - need to find a friendly way to show up, pick up the bike, and either get back the cylinder, or have him buy it off me and get the $$ from millennium for losing it.

Then I'll have a local reputable off-road shop (no more independent mechanics, or "this guy is a magician with cars!!") like 3-bro's KTM that does 2-strokes finish the deal.

    Re: street legal 2-strokes

Why are you going through a third party for a cylinder repair / replate? Just ship it to Millennium, US Chrome, Powerseal, whomever, but send it directly yourself so you can chase them directly. Once you've got a good cylinder and piston in hand, THEN pick someone to do the rebuild.

Oh, and no sleeving, just no.

There's a reason I really don't deal with shops/mechanics/etc any more for my bike stuff.

I've done a bottom end...I just could not get those bearings to "drop" right in w' the freeze/heat method like that rockymountainatv youtube video...then the crank went in a little crooked...blaaahhhh. And I'm renting...technically I'm only allowed to store (not work on) bikes where I live...should have a 4-plex of my own w' a garage by next year tho; then I'll make my own rules

I get what you're saying, but control what you can control. Ship the cylinder yourself, once you've got it back, take the complete parts kit to a shop so all they have to do is labor.

    Re: street legal 2-strokes

Had I known that was going to happen, yes, I would've mailed it myself

this wasn't a "you do some of it, I'll do some of it"

it was "I'm dropping off the whole bike, do-whatever-you-need-to-and-fix-it...I'm a healthcare professional; you're a mechanic so I'm sure you can figure it out. I'll be back in a month."

Either way, I texted him to say I was sending out a spare cylinder and that I was coming for the bike and he called immediately. Apparently "we have a cylinder" and bike "should be ready in a couple days" so I told him I'm coming on Wednesday if it's done or not.

But if it looks like he's jerking me around, then millennium was doing their job and I can have them plate a couple more cylinders.

He is insistent that I let him finish it
