Pot IS a victimless drug. Pot prohibition, and the resulting black market, is far from victimless.

Comment was pretty much sarcasm, sort of blended in with the rest of the post. No need to get pot antsy.

I don't even use the stuff. I just get cranky when causes, effects, and blame get misplaced. Especially when the misplacement results in deadly serious problems like the War on Drugs.

Bringing a knife to a gunfight is actually a pretty good plan, if the fight starts at about 15' or less. (Although it's dubious in this case whether there was even a gun, much less a gunfight.)

I'd imagine it varies with skills, experience, and circumstances.

Re: Teenage dirt bike rider missing around CT/RI border

There actually used to be a law/rule about someone with a knife maintaining 21' or it could be considered a lethal range. It was an odd thing developed by a police chief years ago I believe. It's been quoted in movies/TV a few times right before some guy with a knife charges a properly equipped guy and said guy with knife usually gets shot. It was a far reaching comment.

What about the father of the deceased? I'd imagine some culpability in this if he and the son really were in a pot business together.

In terms of responsibility, maybe to some extent. If only for the fact of raising the kid to be engaged in a dangerous activity. Culpability? No, the father cannot be held legally liable for any aspect of this (although he may now face some investigation regarding his own drug-related activities).

Re: Teenage dirt bike rider missing around CT/RI border

Well, interesting to see what's turn out right so far from the undertone of gossip. That the family sells weed, that he was a delivery rider, and that likely was related to the disappearance. However, apparently the mysterious txt messages were legitimate? Didn't see that coming. Redhead uses ninja skill to punch the gun, but then gets a *folding* blade from his pocket and gets it in his gut? So it was already open in his pocket? Or one-hand assist open?

If the story continues to lack a weapon, seems like the story might evolve as it gets closer to a jury. I don't really understand it either way. Seems like there's a key detail missing. But the facebook conversations kinda paint a pretty simple picture.

From my viewpoint the only true victim was the poor xr100. It probably lived a rough life, forced to stay outdoors and poorly maintained, but like a dog who doesn't know better, it started right up whenever it was called. Then, for absolutely no good reason, it was sent to a watery grave. Perhaps someone will rescue it and bring it back to life so that it can be adopted by some kid who always wanted a dirt bike, but couldn't afford one. He (or she) will love that bike, cleaning it after every ride, changing the oil regularly, looking out for any rust, keeping an eye on chain wear, etc. and the bike will finally know what it feels like to be loved.

Depends on the state and the size of the bike. Over 300cc in Maine and not pre 1997-ish, it gets titled.
