Yeah, I'm starting to lean in that direction (spending more). Originally I said I only wanted to spend a grand... now I'm up to 2-2.5. I really don't wanna spend much more than that though.

Seriously I would go for a 250 4 stroke. Anything more in the woods is cumbersome and really wears you out. Mine is a blast after riding the 610 and 450 in the woods.

+1 I really like smaller CC bikes in the woods. I just picked up a WR250R and the power will be perfect once I re-gear it. Since this is the street legal version its a bit on the chunky side so I have to do some weight reduction.
I'd say 250 4-stroke or 125/200cc 2-stroke. KTMs are always nice since you can reg them and make them street legal. You should talk to Clinton (typeone) about small CC woods bikes. I know he loves his Husky 144 in the woods.
lol there is NO cap on $$ when it comes to dirtbikes. They are the most expensive things you'll ever own in your life.
Well ionno, perhaps if you ride it easily in the woods the bikes won't be too pricey. But if you race all the time, hitting the rev limiter all the time. Basically wide open everywhere, hitting triples then expect everything to break.
And one lose bolt, one tiny tiny bolt that becomes lose will fuck up your day because lose bolts + intense vibrations = fuk my life
no way dude, they are damn expensive but not compared to race cars/road race bikes. I have ridden my 09 a lot and besides cosmetic stuff I wanted to change, i would have only needed to get tires/chain/sprockets/grips/filters/oil/some bolts/top-end for the thing over 2 years. I bought a new clutch for it and haven't even put it in yet.

I think I've spent less in a lifetime of woods riding than <2 seasons of road racing (bikes included)

Hell, even my WReck is cheap compared to road racing, and that made people on this forum cry when I bought it...

totally agree... my 144 is a blast to ride in the woods, perfect power for pretty much everything but bottomless sand. surprising how well that little bike will tractor.
the 250F is very similar, light, maneuverable, but a little more grunty and broad. bumping it to a 270 soon.

that Husky 250 is a solid bike, they haven't changed much, if at all, over the years except for the plastics and graphics. very minor changes elsewhere. it's a little heavy compared to the competition but most say you cant feel it. the motor has been around forever and is proven. i've heard it's no slouch in NE woods so you may have to tame it a bit (i almost bought an '09). depends where/how you ride it i guess.
i would say the only 'negatives' for it would be: not street legal out of the box, extra weight, funky kickstarter (short + short throw, some dont like it), it's not a Honda
wondering on that price... seems OK but it would really have to be in showroom condition for a 12 y/o dirt bike. i could have grabbed that '09 last season for $2500 or less, but it was def used.
