Tire mounting tips???

On how not to pinch a tube. Pinched the original, now did the same to the replacement. I am going to buy stock in tubes.

But I am getting good at getting the tire on and off the rim, lol.

this is just on the rear. Haven't even started the front. I am buying a pallet of tubes tomorrow.

for tubes, I put one bead on the rim, put the tube and rimlock in, then inflate it slightly just to keep it from folding over on itself (so I know it's there before it gets pinched). Then, I use 3 irons to put it back on...

I just got a mojo lever in the mail today actually, haven't even taken it out yet!

A little air in the tube to help keep its shape is key. Some powder on the tube and using the heavy duty tubes will also help.

ya def. put alittle air in the tube! Also, you are probably pinching tubes by inserting the levers too far under the tire bead. Be careful on how far you insert them and you will have better luck. Spray the entire rim/bead area with soap/water or windex to lube it as well.

I pinched one this on saturday. Tire irons for sure. I also had no luck getting my 19" rear tire off the rim. It has 2 rimlocks, and seemed impossible. What's the trick?

2 rimlocks? that is nuts, I never knew any wheels would be like that...did you try using the levers really close to each other so you weren't taking large bites? I do find in general that I can change fronts much easier than rears.

With 2 rim locks - loosen the nuts as much as possible, and make sure both beads are broken completely free of the wheel and the rim locks will move in and out easily (they can get seized to the rim, tube, and tire). Lube everything up. Start the levers on either side of a rim lock - this should let the other side slide into the valley of the rim. Once you figure the tricks out - it's not a matter of strength.

I was helping Paul with his tires. I've done a lot of tires and that rear was not budging even with all my tricks. I said the same thing, "TWO rim locks?".

We moved on to the front. Had it 99% on when I had to use the thin iron, which has a sharper edge and I caught the tube. The other advantage to having a bit of air in the tube is that you know when you popped it. Pssssssss.

went out and bought 4 tubes. 2 front/2 rear.
Got the rear tire done with the first tube with no problems.
Then did the front, 20 minutes later, finished and still with the original tube on the front. Now I have 3 spare tubes, lol.

I use dish soap on the tire, and I put a little air in the tube. I use 2 tire levers and my foot to hold the other end down. I haven't pinched any tubes on either MX or SM wheels. I've only done 3 sets of MX wheels though.

I once mounted a SM front tire on my 125 using plastic bicycle tire levers. I was sweating my ass off, and it took forever, but it worked and I didn't brake the lever.
