Re: New tires for my KDX

There are some places where a trials will slow you down. I can think of a race in CT that I was in that was muddy throughout and the trials hurt me. I used to run a Vee Rubber trials. As far as overall grip on all surfaces MT16 and Vee rubber 300 are pretty equal for me. But, the Vee is easier to mount, and a little taller and wider overall. Plus the mt16 falls apart quickly after hard use. Nothing has been as good as the gt216aa for the front.

I forgot to mention that besides the Kenda Equilibrium hybrid trials, I also want to try the Motoz Mountain Hybrid.

Only one experience with them. Watched KB take a nasty painful digger on a relatively mellow part of trail. Was following him down the trail when he got into a thin layer of snot on top of hardpack going through a slight right hand bend in the trail and next thing I knew KB was laying on the ground writhing in pain. Bike had spun around 180 degrees and was facing me, he launched off the bike only to land on his rib cage pretty hard. I know it is only one event and I have ridden with many people who run trials tires since but that didn't give me the warm fuzzies so I haven't tried one.

i haven't either. trials tire to me = technical rock a high percentage of the time... and that's it.

a standard, intermediate tire with stiff sidewall and low pressures is way more useful for general new england trail use. if Pete is only riding 2 days a month, they'll last forever too. speaking of, i assume we're going to see you at Franklin and Hodges this season?

I did almost exactly the same thing my last time out @ Clough and I was riding knobs.

My moral here is that poop happens no matter what tire you're on.

I'm pretty sure Pete was on knobs when the tree ran out in front of him.

I tried the Kenda. I used it it one hairscramble and took it off and gave it away for a very generous 6 pack. I found that it had traction until it didn't. Once is spun the traction was over and I had to let off to get grip again. It was tested in lots of conditions, from sand to rocks and mud during the race.

Re: New tires for my KDX

This thread is relevant to my interests. I have a KDX, ride woods, and need tires. I did put an MT16 on the rear last year per Rada. It works pretty great. Seems like I should put a matching front on, but I'm interested in this Golden fatty...

Re: New tires for my KDX

On a 250 trials rear is great zero slip most places

So good that the bike goes where the rear tire and frame are pointed and front washes out a lot

However the traction is tractor like almost zero spinning or roosting, a 450 will overpower it but a 2fiddy just launches

I rode a harescramble on a husky 450 with a trials rear once. Holeshotted the shit out of that bitch.

And then got passed like crazy in the sand section.

There are a few Netra non-race events in April. I have to saddle the horse again, hopefully sooner than later. Who all is down for a ride soon?

I'm placing a big bikebandit order today, probably some tires as well, hopefully putting a bunch of time into it next weekend, then potentially able to ride later this month.

Going to do the MT16 rear, not sure on the front. Either the IRC referenced earlier or your golden fatty.

I'll definitely take you up on that if you think they have enough life to be worth swapping on. Are you around tomorrow afternoon?

yup, definitely have life. front looks great, rear you can flip to get a sharper edge. i'd toss them if they were shot but i usually pass tires on if they're still useful. i'll post a pic for you to decide.

i'm trying the Fatty front and I/T rear otherwise i'd just leave them on.

i am around tomorrow, where will you be? think you remember but i live up by Mt Wachusett.
