    Truing wheels

So, My rear wheel is whacked. I thought I had a flat tire, but I found that it was a lot of loose spokes. Well, many of them are at their tightest adjustment, so I know the thing is out of line.

I have started attempting to true it, and it improves, but by the time I finish riding the tire feels flat again when rolling on smooth pavement. I guess I'll just keep at it, but are there any tricks or tips to getting this sorted?

True doesn't always mean centered. Based on your description it sounds to me like you have too many spokes "pulling" the wheel to one side of the hub, if you will.

Have you tried loosening all the spokes (or at least backing them off several turns) and effectively re-truing the whee from there?

No, but that is my next tactic.

If it were me I'd keep the wheel laced but relax all of the spokes completely and go from there. Somewhat tedious, yes, but it will show you if anything more serious is going on with the hoop

OK, this worked great, for 2 rides. I went out today and had to come right back to true it up again. THen I went back to the track and had a flat. FML. This wheel is more work than any I've ever owned, and it's not heavily used...

Park tool for MTB. I usually adjust mine after every 3 rides on the rim. I have yet to pick one of the up.

I put the 6mm wrench in my camelback. Now to fix the flat. I think I'll swap my ice tire onto this rim as I ride Ice far less often.
