Trying to find my families land in Northern VT to cut trail on...

My grandparents own like 100 or 200 acres of land in northern vermont, near lyndonville. problem is, they don't remember how to get there or the address. it was passed down to my grandpa by his grandpa or something..... I'd really like to go there and maybe ride there. from what he tells me it's only Forrest, with a little hunting cabin somewhere. Any idea how i could find it????

You'd have to search town records. Alot of this is on the web for most towns.
If you can't find it on the web, try calling towns.

A caveat: if the taxes for the property haven't been paid, your grand father may not
own the land any longer or there could be leins .

Also if the property has been in use by other individuals for some time
(in RI it's ten years), then there may be other issues, could be a Pandora's box.

His name at the Lyndonville town hall clerk's office will solve the mystery.

Call ahead so that he or she has some time to pull up the records.

They will have a map to show you of where the parcel is.

As for taxes unimproved land is only taxed at a value of about $130 per acre in Vermont.

yeah, i want to get a hold of this land. i have a feeling vermont will be as bad as CT, RI and MA in 10-15 years if the population keeps going up..... you can't even start an atv/dirtbike in CT without the cops showing up from what i've seen.

awesome. i don't want any more people there anyway. it's fine how it is. although, the population might increase now.... given what vermont just legalized.... not looking forward to the politics they'll bring... flatlanders...

My family has a cabin and 380 acres just east of Burke, which is just north east of Lyndonville. It is a gorgeous area, but yes, watch out for property taxes. We allow logging on a portion of the property just to "use the land" which keeps taxes lower.

The northern kingdom is still VERY much "old school vermont". Good luck finding the spot, and if you do, welcome to the neighborhood!

I met you at the Umall in South Burlington last summer, or exactly outside of it as you were going in.
I have a quad and a chainsaw and love making trails.

Spent a year at Lyndon State College and loved it! Very nice area i brought my enduro up there and rode around the dirt roads! I have a camp on maidstone lake in Maidstone, VT and it is gorgeous riding up there and the cops are few! I plan to take many rides up there this summer!

tell me how you get town employees to do research for you with a phone call, answering a specific question about a particular parcel is one thing, finding that parcel is another

O.K.. O.K... I just tried a quick search and you're right. Does VT even
    have cable?

I'm amazed that the town records are not on-line, I looked and the home page for the
town is basically a phone directory.
