    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

so, the 5.2 kinda felt the same i set sag in street clothes the night before then added a bit more preload halfway through the day today but i need to set sag again in full gear. front end felt a little too light. i'm around ~40mm static ~102mm race so def some room to play. kept it soft to start.

i'm done with springs for a bit other than sag tweaks. need to let the forks break in then re-evaluate.

    awesome!

you guys make it look easy!

I'll admit...I do miss the new england single track...wide open stuff is fun, but there's a different kind of fun with technical stuff

and I need to go through, get the suspension rebuilt, and dial in the suspension on the yz...gonna keep her awhile, so I'm willing to slowly spend the cash to get her up to speed...definitely needs suspension because boy did she suck in the whoops compared to the 9 year newer YZ450F

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

any idea what their pricing looks like for tuning? talked to them last summer about shock work but just had GMD do it instead (simple refresh).

prob give C-Cycle a try after forks fully break in. i've got ~105mi on them now, i'll see how everything feels in another 100.

plus i know my rear sag isn't optimal, i use a low-buget-solo-redneck-technique to get it close (stick, marker, tape, ruler and good balance) that will be corrected before the next outing.

both hills are fun, not hard at all but a little daunting on your first run

that whole back area is full of great little hills like that. the curved one with angled root half way up is prob the most challenging. i've eaten it about 4 times over there. root messes with your head!

Mike, i have an idea for a mini hill track over there that could use all of them in one shot.

Mine was ~$600 with a rear spring. It's probably gonna go back for a service/tweak this winter.

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

    You got me going Clinton...
I just called him, it may be going in sooner than later. He looked up my specs and where I was right on the cusp before, I might have to go and beef up the fork springs and change up the valving a smidge. Based upon what I "crappily" tried to convey, he was able to articulate it back in real suspension terms, and it seems as I get faster, i need to go back for a few adjustments (and a service anyway).

    Now to find some $&time...

nice! cool that they're easy to work with AND keep your specs handy. speed def requires changes, you gotta be flying this season with all the race time.

i had the WR working so well i don't mind taking the time and $$$ to get it right. so worth it. i'll prob make any bigger changes a winter thing though. having too much fun right now

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

Midwest Mountain Engineering 'CLever lever' ordered. anxious to try one out.

i'm used to the stiffer hydro clutch now but i'm still getting a huge knot on my ring finger knuckle from the breakaway-cutout on the stock Brembo levers. same issue with the WR and TC. i only use 2 fingers on the levers so shorty will be nice. prob go with ARC or something for the brake (Nissin).

10mm bar risers added + tested on Sun, felt way better standing. barely any rise on the stock bars.

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

the MME Clever Lever is very nice, but def not a 50% reduction in pull. i would guess 28%

still love it though, no more bloody knuckle!

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

^ OK, my promises mean nothing (but i'm itchin' to ride with you)

    ---

so, i've got another ~80mi on the suspension (~185mi total), the rear is feeling OK but the forks are harsh and deflect badly in the rocks at a good clip. not a nice surprise when focused on staying alive. need to decide if i want to give WER or C-Cycle a try. in the slow stuff, both ends feel good.

best mod i've made to date... that Midwest Mountain Engineering lever. fucking GOLD.

still impressed every ride by the motor in this bike. claws so well... the hill in this vid starts out all softballs, changes to suitcases, back to softballs and ends with suitcases. you don't want wheel spin anywhere. looks flat in the vid, it's not.

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

been enjoying the RR for about 1.8 seasons now, time for some fresh bits.

to keep me motivated (and attempt to lessen my drinking habit) i'm going to try to keep a little log here.

    the Plan:

    - fresh fork oil
✔ inspect / grease steering stem bearings
    ✔ inspect / grease linkage
    - clean up wiring i'm not using (headlight, tail light, signals, etc)
✔ re-install OEM computer mounted in a bar pad
    - add coarse foam to airbox
    ✔ EarthX lithium battery
    ✔ NGK shorty plug
    ✔ Slavens S3 'Mule' high-comp head
    ✔ X-Trainer power valve spacer
✔ JD jet kit w/power valve spring
    ✔ ZipTy air screw
    ✔ FMF Shorty silencer
    - EE alloy skidplate
    ✔ Fastway/Stillwell Perf linkage guard
✔ 50T Dirt Tricks rear sprocket (+1 tooth)
    ✔ 13T Supersprox front
    ✔ DID X-Ring chain
    - TM Designworks chain guide
✔ fresh donuts (GoldenTyre 216AA 'Fatty' front / Motoz Tractionator I/T rear)
    - fresh Renthal grips
✔ overall inspect / grease controls, etc and inspect / replace lost bolts, chaffed wires, etc
    ✔ make braaap sounds

    GO.. .

Nice! Someday I may peel off the ragged remnants of Plasti-dip from my bike's previous owner. Baby steps.

yeah, every review is really good, cant wait to sample. thnx for the heads up on Kevin's, they just got a fresh stack in. they're also going to start stocking Motoz which is nice, i'm still in love with the Tractionator rear, trying the I/T this season rather than my standard S/T.

speaking of tires, i'm amazed the Motoz Terrapactor i still have on the front is wearing so well, better than the Tractionator. it's a soft MX tire so the sidewall isn't very stout. i hated the matching rear, ZERO traction in the rocks. almost all conditions felt slippery. very odd.

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

had to watch the kids tonight and didn't have my full toolbox with me but got a little bit done with the 8mm that stores in the subframe and some randoms...

a fat stack of parts should start arriving tomorrow but the PV spacer arrived. 10mm thick, added volume = more grunt before the PV opens

if you're not aware, these are good spots to keep an eye on with any bike... the grit and constant rubbing will cut through metal in no time

the fork guard guide ring, mine was cut through in one season, i turn it every so often and also make sure the guards aren't rubbing. once that guide ring is worn through, the guard starts eating the fork. no bueno.

and the rear mud guard is already cutting into my swingarm pretty good. going to mount some plastic or something for it to rub on

    re: typeone's Beta build (250RR)

    little more tonight...

prob do fork oil and tires over the weekend. rear tire arrived, front tomorrow. also received chain, fr sprocket, JD kit, skid plate, etc

Dirt Tricks SE in black PVD w/black BOLT bolts, can't even see it. MURDER

after removing the pipe i noticed the PV linkage cover is leaking pretty bad, goop all over. clean up + some RTV is the plan

the EE skid is sweet, very well made, welds are tasty. rubber lined frame rails before install is the plan
