    Re: weekend dirt trip?

Did you guys find more trails or ride a lot of the same stuff we rode yesterday? Great weather!

What time and where tomorrow? Looks as though we'll probably head to Clough but I might be able to change their minds.

    as usual, nice pics!

so with trails that wide, the riding is probably pretty fast, eh?

the only thing that makes me nervous are the rocks...I'm not sure the XR200R's mini suspension can eat those

iglu: you should be going more often!!

We were ripping pretty good today. The rocks aren't too bad - some rough sections but all managable.

We did both trails from yesterday and some new stuff today too. There's lots more to explore too. I'm pulling up the GPS data now. We'll be at the same parking tomorrow morning, probably around 10.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

we dip in and out of the parking area, we can venture far from it or stay close by riding.

    Re: weekend dirt trip?

Definitely a good time. Great to ride with you all. Mellisa, you rocked! The trails remind me of Pittsfield State forest. No singletrack, but some real bony stuff that is actually harder to ride slow/med than it is to just rip it.

There was one long ascent we did like three times that hast a great mix of terrain. Steep grippy dirt, the infamous water bar rhythm section, steep babyhead section, mud puddle section, fast flat stretches, and a few pretty nice twisties. On our final loop I aired it out a little on the ascent and had an absolute blast linking all those sections in an extended 2nd/third gear on the pipe climb.

The out and back powerline mission you can see in the third GPS map was the usual for this area. Steep, ledgy climbs, descents punctuated by deep bogs in between. Quite energy sapping. BTW, the GPS maps kick ass. I need to get me one of those things.

I wish we had a trail map, because there has to be a lot more to that place.

PS. no one went swimming today, but I did get a full shower. At one deep water crossing my front tire got deflected and when it turned, the water spray came right up and over the front soaking me pretty good. My hands were freezing after that. Nice to have dry gloves back at the car.

Sounds like an interesting ride. Wish I could have made there but didn't pick the bike up until a lot later than I wanted to.

Nah, we went further down the lines in that direction, there was a pretty knarly hill. I ran up it getting speed around a berm only to see a huge nearly verticle rock face right in my line. I made it up, but she tried to follow my line and ended up using the rock face as a jump only she went straight up in the air, did a bit of a freestyle superman and then let the bike go. Not sure what's wrong with it just yet. We found a somewhat near by road, me and Brian went back for the cars and Joel helped her push it out. Thanks a million Joel!

cool, so you found more non powerline trails further up? Did you see the lakes that show on the GPS maps? Was that a dead end or do you think it could make a big loop back to the parking area?

    Re: weekend dirt trip?

It went down much much further, on and off the powerlines. I'm not sure which lakes, after we picked up the bike we drove by some. We ran into some quads, one broken down and Joel and Brian gave them a ride back to get their car. They were at another parking area a ways further down the lines. There are definitely tons more trails to run. This GPS is everything we did in the three days, the powerlines go forever and you can see trails when you zoom them.

That last spot on the power lines before cutting off into the woods again is where I lost my battle vs the solid rock face. So far in my trouble shooting of the bike / fixing I've pulled the seat, tank, spark plug, and most of the stuff off of the bars. Gonna maybe try for pulling / cleaning the carb tonight or tomorrow (since its never been cleaned to my knowledge)

Things needing fixin' - bars (bent another pair pretty damn well), Ascerbis Bark Busters (bent bark busters I didn't even think they could bend), possible replacement shift lever (bent it back into place but metal may be getting compromised), Replace spark plug (never been done to my knowledge and it looked kinda rusty), clean carb (and pray that that is why the bike won't start), oh, and a new back tire b/c mines about roached.

If none of the above get the job done looks like I'll be bribing people with alcohol and sexual favors to pop into the more technical stuff.

damn woman, what type of bars are you buying? Get some Pro-Taper or Tag oversize if you can get the correct bar mounts.

Thanks Paul - I actually disconnected the kill switch and still same issue.

Stock / regular size bars - gonna have to move up to the oversize I think

Thanks Doug - I might take you up on that - gonna see what I get accomplished today - I've pulled, cleaned, and rejetted a carb before (in a blaster) so I know the mechanics of it but putting things back the way they were sometimes presents an issue.
