    130/80 tire on a 110/80 recommended rim?

I'm trying to get some better tires for my dual sport, but it calls for a 110/80 18, which is really hard to find. I can pick up a 120/90 TKC80 for $105 or a 130/80 Shinko 700 for $60ish. How hard would it be to fit the 130 to that rim? The bike is a 1990 Yamaha XT350, and it currently has a very street oriented tire on it, I'd like something a bit knobbier.

Have you seen this 130 width tire in person?
It may not be any different than a normal 110 width. I know for sure that Michelin makes up their own numbers rather than using the traditional Japanese measurement. That makes their 130 a similar width to a normal 110 and their 140 is similar to a normal 120.

what is the width of the rim? a 130 would fit, but it may have a different profile depending on your rim dimension.

No clue...All I know is that it calls for a 110/80. Mark said the 130 should be fine but I wanted a second opinion.

yeah, it should be fine as long as you have a little room for a wider tire. it wont be grossly wider though. im guessing this is a front tire...turn in will be slower on pavement with a wider tire, and on dirt it will float more and not dig in as much. i guess it comes down to what you want. id stay away from shinko...

haha, no, it's a rear tire. Front I think is 90/90. I might go with Amazon.com: Michelin T63 Dual Sport Rear Tire - 120/80-18/--: Automotive: Reviews, Prices & more instead, since it's closer to the right size and is a trusted name, without the price of the TKC80

My routine with dirt tires is: if it fits in the swingarm, I'll use it.
I don't know how rugged you want to get, but a Dunlop 606 rear, with a kenda washougal front is where I'll be next. They're just kinda noisy on the street.

Ordered the Michelin T63 in 120/80. Should be a huge improvement over the street oriented tire on there now.
