Re: if I win the lottery

I would say that's a lot of stress on the motor..probably why the kit is bolted to a Yamaha
I can think of better things to spend 5k on, but as the title says, if I won the lottery..I'd try one

Yup! Working on getting the last few small parts for the front ski to make it more "hard packed trail friendly". Hoping to get out on the trails with it this winter.

That is the SICKEST thing I've ever seen oh I want one. You could bolt that to a big bore vtwin supermoto bike oh the possibilities.

That has always been my thought on the kits to put onto dirtbikes.

We have seen firsthand what the extended high RPM running of motards does to the big single 4 stroke dirtbike motors at Loudon, Kaboom, and this looks like they are wide open for alot longer then we see at Loudon.

Don't get me wrong, they look like a ton of fun and as the title says, If I win the lottery, I am sure I would have a couple. I'm just hoping that I can figure out how to ride the SnowHawk 503F that I have on the packed trails of New England and enjoy it. Most people on these things are out Boondocking it through the trees off trail. Guess We'll see this winter (fingers crossed).

Man, that bike sounds *LOUD*. Odd that in the clips, it sounds louder coming towards the camera than it does moving away...
I could never own a bike that loud, and ride it with a clear conscience.

Snow, cold air, mountains and valleys really add to the noise. That's the reason it sounds that way even coming at the camera.
That's also what a stock MX 4-stroke sounds like when you buy it new off the showroom floor.

Explorer, amongst others make these kits, and although pricey, are particularly cool because technically they allow you to register as a snowmobile (you need both the skis and tracks to be legal) which opens up a lot of riding areas which are otherwise your run of the mill state parks

I wonder if the track system is something that can be made for less money

Re: if I win the lottery

I have looked at the explorer kit in the past and I want one someday. It is a lot of money though and I would need at least a 450 to power it, I'm thinkin the kdx just wouldnt do it. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun though.

Re: if I win the lottery

ok, it's been done cheaper on mini bikes, but they don't even compare to the kits with a 450mx bike

essentially, you just buy an entire track system from a junked snowblower (should include the track, the framework, and the cogs that drive it), mount it in your swing arm, and figure out a way to get a sprocket on there to turn the parts

I'm sure the track system could be as cheap as $40, but my guess is that the track is too wide to fit into the swing arm without obstructing the OEM chain, and I don't really know if it's possible to mount a sprocket (that's not taller than the track drive) to get it to work...

Re: if I win the lottery

^ friend of mine did that last year to one of his minis... think he's still working out some kinks.

regarding the large rear sprocket, you could just do a jack-shaft setup to get the gearing you want. that would keep the rear sprocket down in size some.
