There's a thread on NEDB about these in the sponsors section. For what it'd cost to purchase all the studs you need to do your front and rear tires, it'd come out to the same money as buying a set of manufactured ice tires...and you'll have who knows how many extra hours into them.
Note.. they are not legal for any NETRA events

Pretty trick looking screw and it's cool idea in theory if the price were about 1/4 what it is.

NETRA only disallows sheet metal screws. These are studs for snow, not ice racing. They have several different lengths for different snow depths. Typical saving over pre-studded tires is $100-$350 per set, depending on what tire you use and how many studs per tire you put in.

They'd probably be great for the trail rider but it's going to come down to a screw in type stud not being allowed at events..it's already starting

At last Thursday's CT Ramblers meeting it was decided that due to the fact that we have not heard an opinion from the DEP on these screws, they will not be allowed through tech inspection at the upcoming Snow Run Enduro. The rules may state "Sheet Metal Screws" but the reason that rule is there in the first place is due to CT DEP policy. We feel screws are screws and would rather not loose an event over a technicality in the rule book. Thank You

Screws may be okay for ice, but they get pulled out too easily if there's no snow/ice cover on trails.

    These Best-Grip "nails" look interesting.

Since they in fact screw into the tire though...

I can't see those holding a candle to the "Canadian" style tire for lake racing.

They do look pretty cool for woods riding though!!

They are not for Ice Racing, only trail riding in deep snow.

Up for a ride this week end?

So, are these things NETRA-legal? There's a hare scramble next weekend, and an enduro the weekend after...

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

The CT Ramblers have decided not to allow them because they have yet to get approval from the DEM. The concern over screws is that they tear out easily and litter the trail for other user groups like horses. Horses don't like getting flats. They may be allowed late if it shown that stay in as well or better that studs. I'll be at the enduro who else is going?

    Thanks for the info.

    re: winter enduro
What do you run for tires, and how do they hold up on the road sections? I imagine extreme care must be taken over any paved surfaces.

I have Telleborg, Michelin and some small stud Cheng Shin depending on the snow conditions. You need to be a little careful on pavement, they are short, slow sections.
