Well I purchased a pair of VeeRubber Gncc tires today at the Barnes Way hare scramble. $65 rear $60 front, couldn't beat the price. I'll post up feedback once I've gotten a couple rides in.

which model did you go with? hope you like them as much as i do

turned my buddy on to them as well, he's been impressed, liked them better than the Dunlops he was running (cant remember what combo). he's running a 21/19 setup w/Motoz HD tubes, no pinch in the rocks yet.

whatcha think of these for a DOT legal semi aggressive tire. They will definitely be better offroad than my Bridgestone TW302. I went for the middle of the road 50/50 street/dirt and it has served me well, but it's worn out. My recent experiences lean toward a more offroad ready tire.

not to keep pushing Motoz but... the Tractionators are DOT approved and have a nice aggressive tread pattern. maybe check out the Tractionator Desert H/T (hard terrain)?

I've never heard of Tractionators, I may try them after my (just purchased) Mefo Explorers wear out.

I am more drawn to the Moto-Z X-Circuit tires. The knob pattern looks perfect for rock riding! No DOT rating on them, though.

Depends on the bike. You can get away with the 100/110 with the kdx. I honestly don't know how wide will fit in the bike. Gregp will chime in, hopefully.

    Re: Woods tires???

I've got nothing useful to add, other than it's getting dark earlier and I've got more time to spend online..

My KTM 200 had the MX 51 rear and stock front tire, I think Bridgestone 402 or something?
Both were shot, knobs missing from the front tire, the rear was at about 30% knob height left.

I had a friend visit from Finland that wanted to ride an enduro and a hair scramble...

Me.. Sure, you can use my bike, I need to put new tires on first..what do you want on it for your races?
Him.. Why, do they hold air?
Me.. LOL, yes, they are just getting down there on the wear.
Him... I'll be fine, I can ride
    Me... Ok

It was my bike he used, so i kept the 1st place trophy from his race that day...actually, it wouldn't fit in his luggage for the flight home!

    Second weekend..

Him... Lets go to the bike shop and buy a new rear tire.
    Me... Just the rear?
Him.. Yes, the front is fine.
Me.. It's missing half the knobs.
    Him.. I'll be fine

He had the lead on the first 2 laps, then lost the rear brake for the last 2 laps and ended up in 3rd

Not sure what the point of the post is, well maybe it's everyone blames the tires for their falls, slips, slides, lack of skill...and i'm one of them
Though I still haven't changed that front tire...what should I put on it?

Why do i care if a dirt bike tire is DOT approved? Wouldn't that be worse?

Which ones are the GNCC tires? What model and compound? These are what I was leaning toward.

Not necessarily. The DOT rating is only of concern for those who ride their bikes on the street - Dual Sport, or Enduro applications. The Pirelli MT-16 front tire is a DOT rated full on knobby (the rear MT-16 is not DOT rated - but is a very good general purpose woods tire. It looks very similar to the Metzler Unicross that was "The Tire" to run in NETRA events in the 1970's.)

Both the 140&300 say gncc on the side of them. It's just a generic name, and nothing to do with the series. I've run both, the 140 is marginally sticker, at the cost of wear. The 300 is sticky as well, but a bit less (still way stickier than a regular knobbie) and lasts longer. Both are fantastic choices for NE wods. They are available locally from LDA racing. Did I say they're inexpensive yet? Very reasonable.

Are you sponsored by LDA or Vee Rubber?
I was thinking about the 140 just to get the maximum sticky I can get, I'm trying to keep up with Clinton and Jay so I need all the help I can get.

You don't have the one where I'm rolling down the hill do you? That same tree got me the second time Clinton and I went through that loop, didn't roll down the hill the second time though.

That's me vs. a stick when trying to cut the course The stick won.

Nope. But if you wanna give them a shot, it's the fastest/cheapest/localist option.

I will. Just curious how unvarnished the opinion was

    Re: Woods tires???

I've ridden quite a few brands and models over the years. They're good.
If it wasn't for the vees, I'd be on the same irc ve33 or 35, whichever is the front, and (any brand but Pirelli) trials tire I've been most comfortable with for a while. Vee makes a tt too, I just haven't gotten my mitts on it. Maybe next time, but I like the 300 a lot.

Well thanks. I probably won't know enough to be able to report the difference of the new tires, I'm still in the holding on for dear life phase of dirt bike riding. But I appreciate the advice and will listen.

Do you just use the Vee rubber ultra heavy duty tubes? Or is that another thread in itself?

I think that's what's in there now. Hd tubes are hd tubes, as far as I'm concerned. If you're lucky, you won't pinch flat, if you aren't...well you just dnf'd.

I would if I was a real racer. They wear out quickly, and need to be replaced. And they're spendy.

If I was racing I'd probably finish the race on a flat tire. That's what the bead lock is for right?

I wound up riding the majority of the day on a flat rear tire the last time I went riding. Tire went down about a 1/4 mile out and I said screw it I'm riding. Made it through the day without incident and fixed the flat when I got home.

Enough about that crap though. UHD tubes are defintely worth it. Up until this summer I hadn't had a flat in three seasons with the UHD tubes. I think I got a small sharp rock inside my tire, that I didn't get out when I fixed my flat the first time, and it wore through the tube after riding for a bit and wiggling around. Same exact type of hole in the tube in two completely different places.
