I think there's something to be said for R7s story. A great rider on shitty tires is still a great rider. A shitty rider can buy the most expensive tires and replace them after every ride. He'll still ride shitty. That's kinda where I'm at...

I hated them personally. I'd suggest paying bit more and going with the motoz. If you don't need tubes they would be about $170 a set.

    Re: Woods tires???

Personally, I think that the 952's would be fine. I haven't tried them, but they are supposed to be patterned after the extremely successful 752's, which I loved. I also think that tires don't really matter that much, as long as they have some decent knob height. I have been dirt riding all of my life, and I am not really that picky any more. Most tires that are on the market now are fine for me. I do stay away from the Chen-shin's, though, just because they are a PITA to mount.
While I would love to try the Moto-Z's, I have a tough time justifying the extra cost. I still might try them, though. I need a front tire now. All of my side knobs are torn off of my current Metzler. Those front side knobs are more important to me than any rear knobs.
I used to run a "Mullet" setup - a 50/50 tire, like a Kenda K270 on the rear, and a decent DOT knobby on the front. The rear can just spin away, for all I care. As long as the front does not slide out unexpectedly, the bike rides just fine.

I really liked the 952 rear, but spend the extra and get a Bridgestone M59, or or Pirelli MS32 front instead.

    Re: Woods tires???

I used to run the 752 for two reasons. It was cheap, and it lasted a long time before rounding off. For some reason, the price went way up when it became the 952. I agree with the front tire being way more important. I love the M59.

    Re: Woods tires???

So I mounted up a VeeRubber GNCC rear today. Even at a temp of 30, These things are very soft, and easy to mount. I really hope this tire works well and lasts, because I like how pliable these little babies are.

    300. is the front worth using, or should I sell it and just grab another k59? (which I love)

I defer to jc on the fronts. I haven't ridden one.

    Re: Woods tires???

The front I have is still sitting in my shed, the M59 is holding up. I am in need of a new rear and may try the true trials if I see the vee-rubber guy next time.

    Re: Woods tires???

oops I meant m59. I can't believe how long these have been lasting for me. That's why I'm reluctant to switch to anything else. I'm still gonna spoon on the Vee, just to see how it works and lasts. I hear the front needs roughly 16lbs to handle properly. I guess this is because the carcass is soft?

    Re: Woods tires???

Yeah, that made me a little bit weary of running it. I keep the 59 @ about 12-13 and the rear GNCC at 12. Any more and it seems to bounce around too much, and I'd rather be confident and risk a flat (which hasn't happened yet) than to feel awkward riding. Maybe when I'm good enough for points and races to matter that will change.

I've been running that rear at 14-15. I pinch flatted it at 12. Ymmv.

    Re: Woods tires???

im ordering a D952 today for the front. i was leaning toward the MX71 but the 952 seems to cover a slightly wider range of conditions.
i was gonna just replace it with a Pirelli MT16, which is on there now, but my discount on the dunlops is better
ive got a Vee on the back that practically new.

The 952 rear is nice, the front is only fair. There are better fronts.

like i said, i was gonna do the MT16 again, but for $62 the dunlop is worth a try. i dont think my skill will be able to tell the difference. if it sucks as a woods tire then ill keep it for ice tire

    Re: Woods tires???

    That took some effort!

Ok so I'll run the Vees at 14 rear and 15 front. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

SVracer, are you getting a discount on the dunlops or can we all get them at that price? If so, where?
