    Kitt's track progress thread

OK, I have a few scattered threads. Since I now have the ewuipment, and a starting point, I will update here. I would love some help when schedule's allow, efforts and resources on the build is directly related to how welcomed you will be to come ride

Starting point, about 40-50ft maximum elevation change, with loads of natural elevation changes and whoops. Will hopefully have many yards of fill delivered for this season. Will update with progress and photos.

Keep pushing for permission to come out of the woods and around one of those trees in the nw corner of the meadow. That would be sick.

Are you going with single track, or multi-bike?

    Re: Kitt's track progress thread

I can do some Fridays and weekends. Chainsaw, come-along, what ever just let me know what to bring. It's probably too wet to take a tractor out in the woods now but we can do a chipper weekend later this summer if you want. I'm going to be making some trails around my place too so I'll be having the chipper over at my place anyway.

I agree - planning on marking the track and going through on foot/with ATV to remove/pile the brush. I am hoping my straight blade bucket will work, but may need to upgrade to doze the stumps out in late april/early may.

I'm down to chip-in (pun intended) for the machine if you're renting. Do you want/need firewood? There's some Oak tops left in there that are not really obstructing the track config, but the sooner they come out, the better they'll be to burn.

The first pass will be minimum 6 ft, with many sections being 8-10 ft. We'll see how that feels, it will be tight, but depending on lines, plenty of room to pass.

For the first year, I am trying to limit the diameter of tree I want to take down. The current loop above doesn't require anything over 6" dia being removed (but this makes for some narrower 6 ft sections). As the track evolves, it should get wider - drainage - more options (which will include some non-wooded sections).

buy some of the flat land behind my place (just to the left of the picture).

I'm considering buying 10-20 acres down there, but it wouldn't be for a SX track

If you buy, I'll let you use the bobcat!

I think about 5 would be good. It takes more space than you think. Plus you need access/egress

Damn, that would be too rich for my blood! I think Robbie Marshall's sx track is in much less than an acre, but it is pretty tight. I was thinking of my parents house lot with no house on it which is 1.1 acres I think and that seemed like it would fit a rad track haha

I've had good luck by using a comealong to pull the trees over before I cut them down. It rips them most of the way out by the roots so it'd be easy to tug them the rest of the way with your bobcat. I've been doing that to some large cedars at my place slowly but steadily. It's a good time of year to do it since the ground is so wet and it didn't get frozen under the snow. Speaking of which, do you need any cedar logs for bridges or corduroy sections?

The chipper is my dads so no $ needed. I'll always take more firewood. Can't have too much of that!

I can always use cedar! Wouldn't mind a couple logs to stand up at the end of the driveway. If you're removing any small cedars, let me come dig em up - going to be working at some perimeter privacy.

I can spot you an acre or two out of what I have now... I was expecting it would take more.

btw, if you spring for your own acre or two, property tax is about $7/yr per acre.

Just let me know the lengths that you want the logs cut to and I'll dice them up as I take them down. There aren't a lot of tiny trees. Our house site was cut into the middle of a cedar woods so it's surrounded by very tall gangly trees.

a couple 8 footers for the driveway markers would be sick. I can come by and lend a hand or cut my own as well. P.S. I also got forks with the bobcat... add it to your list of available barter.
