    Lowering 03 CBR 600RR

Hey PK!! i need some advice...

I just bought an 03 Honda CBR 600RR and i am only 5'5. I have read about lowering links etc. and hear different opinions regarding handling and whatnot. I definitely would feel much more comfortable with the bike lowered maybe 3".

I have also heard that you can play around with the actual suspension without adding links. Is this possible and if so, how easy and safe is it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks PK

    DON'T LOWER YOUR BIKE!!!!

shave the seat if you have to or just one foot it.

Union is on the short side and rides a rc51 and he just uses 1 foot at stops

VAA is also short and rides a gixxer 1k that is NOT lowered

Don't lower it. Learn to deal with it or get a diff. bike. I can't even close to flatfoot my r6.

Squandering ground clearance and suspension travel is not cool.

Well I guess since I was mentioned and I work here I might as well add my two cents.

John is right I am kind of small. Im 5'6 so I have an inch over you and I do ride an RC51. I actually ended up raising the rear of my bike to make it handle better. Im not sure what my seat height is but I can not get both feet on the ground at once. I have to get off my bike to push it.

Try not to lower you bike as it can affect the handling usually in a very bad way. I know its a bit uncomfortable at first by try one footing it. I always put my left foot down unless I have no other option just so I have the rear brake covered in case I need it to hold the bike in place.

Also where on the island do you ride? I grew up over in Falmouth and on my trips to MV there is no place to have a good time.

First... it is your bike... so do what you want with it.

Second... almost everyone here will tell you not to lower it because you'll screw up with handling and turning abilities, etc etc.

Third... 3 inches is a LOT to lower a bike.

I'm 5'6" on a good day and I've never been able to flat foot, but you get used to it.

LuvDog...thanks for the reply. most people have been helpful, but I have been told I have hit a nerve with this question. I am a brand new rider...road mini bikes when I was 8 years old that's it. I went out and bought a 600RR because I wanted to learn on a real bike not a shitty 250 Kawasaki. I just wanted to know what lowering the bike was all about and if it would help me feel comfortable riding.

Maybe try to get a buel blast in the spring then

But like I said their are a TON of people who are short and can't flat foot a bike. They all deal with it because what you loose in lowering is way more than the confidence you could gain from lowering it.

For what it's worth, the Ninja250 is an excellent learning platform, very easy bike to handle, bullet-proof motor with cheap parts available everywhere, and will teach you how to ride a bike to it's full potential. I started on the 250, and have owned my fair share of bikes since then, but if I had to do it all over again I'd go right back to that little Ninja. But to each his own...

This seems to be going down hill fast. As Ive said lowering the bike should be your last option. Ive seen people drop bikes so low they turn like a steamroller. We had a customer that had the bike lower and after we got our hands on it and tossed it back to stock height they were very pleased with how "light" the bike felt. The difference was it was turning and transitioning quicker because the swing arm angle wasnt all screwed up.

As for the 600rr for you first bike. Well there could be much worse. Just take it easy and watch the cars on that island during the summer. Make a couple trips over on the boat to ride with us a few times next season.

Most of the dudes on this forum could smoke your ass all day long at the track on a ninja 250 with you on your 600rr.

This is the wrong forum to say dumb shit like that.

Try a gixxer 1k forum maybe...

Edit.... by the way, this statement makes me want to punch babies.

It always gets out of hand. You have three people. Those that know, those that dont know and those that dont know and think they do. The third type is the worst because they will fight you until the end.

Just keep in mind there is a lot of knowledge on this forum.

ohh no feelings hurt here!! I'm a 5'5 cop...heard it all and been called it all. I just appreciate disrespect where there is no need for it that's all. It was a simple knowledge gaining question and couldn't know that it was such a wrong question to ask.

And the whole comment about not getting a 250 kawasaki was only written to make a couple of digs! and i guess it worked

As union said, it always gets out of hand around here. Nothing stays on topic too long or it becomes a long "discussion" about something.

In addition to what faster said, as a newb don't be scared to be wrong and don't think you have to to prove anything. If you find there is a general consensus on a topic, then think about it and realize there may be a good point and learn from it. One very tender nerve around here is the whole starting on a big bike. If someone jumps on your back for an opinion, first look for the sarcasm, then think about whether they may actually have a point. There is a lot to be learned from these fools if you are willing to listen.
