So lemme get this straight, there was actual contact of private property in order to retrieve a tag number?
I don't recall reading that anywhere except for obsolete's post. Is this true?

Doc, you are completely correct, which is why I ended up leaving instead of approaching them already being pissed off. It had been commented after the "sound tests" up here on the north shore of MA that most of the cops doing the tests have no clue what they are doing. Further more, they are not helping their cases in getting cooperation from us. If they had said, "hey guys, we are videotaping bikes in order to create a data base for our stolen vehicles unit" most of us would have JUMPED at letting them do that. Like fingerprinting for your bike. I wasn't as upset with WHAT they did as how they waited until we were all preoccupied with the chaps contest and then sneaked around the bikes lifting people's jackets up and manipulating people's $$$expensive$$$ gear in order to do so. Whose responsible if one of the Officers bumped a helmet on the ground ($725) and cracked it? are they going to say "hey my bad, I was violating your rights and broke your helmet, who do I make the check out to?" or is it going to be "too bad so sad?" THATS my concern, my shits important to me b/c it saves my head.... We all know what would happen if a regular joe was lifting up our gear to get a "better" look....

Agreed... I don't think the attitude is the "worst ever".
"I am doing nothing wrong officer, my bike is not illegal. Let me move my jacket so that you may get a better look at my plate and not touch my personal property"...![]()
So what law did they break and how can you enforce it?
If an officer was to come up to my bike and even look at it funny I would say "Excuse me officer is there a problem?" and "I would appreciate you not touching my property, Is there something I can do for you?"
What is he going to do? Continue touching my property? I have witnesses, I will take his name and badge number...
Does it even have to go that far?

Ok so maybe a bunch of you responsible mature motorcyclists should ask for a meeting with the Chief and get the newspapers involved. Explain what you just said above. Maybe it won't change a damn thing, maybe it will. Worth a shot?
Breaking the stereotype would do wonders for the sport bike riders reputation.
I can see the concern about the moving of the gear. Hell I am pissed when some douchbag touches my shit.

Shoulda walked up to him, took his gun out of the holster and taken a picture of the serial number.... Same shit to me....Just taking a picture of this in case someone steals your gun. I could be way off on this but came into my head first. Touching your shit is a no no.
