I am just saying stick up for yourself. Laying back to let the cops do their work is never a good plan.

Sticking up for ones self is always a good fight! I am no criminal. I do not need to be tapped.

I have the ACLU on my side as always:-)

Not sticking up for what is right is just plain lazy!

Its a public event. Parking is charged for, but nothing stops me parking on the street and walking in either. If someone photographed your bike, as a civilian, they've got every right to do so. The police in this instance are operating under precisely the same restrictions everyone else does.

Besides, its hardly the worst thing in the world - photographing plates incase bikes run from the police. Sounds to me they're trying to actually make it easier to enforce the laws that are already there....

you were taped last time you withdrew money from the ATM. the last time you went in the tunnel or over either of the bridges into boston. the last time you hit the gas station to fuel your bike. the last time you bought some oil to do your oil change. the last time you bought food. the last time you went to a sox game.

welcome to modern life. you are on tape nearly 24/7 when in a public place...you just saw the cameramen up close this time.

But sticking up for my self is my right. Is it not?

Should I put my head in the sand?

What is next... just tell the cops that you are a speeder?

    Re: Cover your plate

Well you could have done something like this.

You: "excuse me officer, why are you touching my personal property? Am I parked illegally? Is there some sort of violation".

Leo: "no, we are just videotaping you without your consent and touching your private property so we can have a clear shot of your license plate"

You: "hmm, thats sounds like your doing a good job keeping the general public sage from hooligans such as myself. Say, did you get a warrant to touch my personal property... seeing as I did nothing wrong?"

Leo: "uhm no, did you just threaten me?"

    You: "uh no"

    Leo: "yes you did"

    You: "no i didn't"

Leo: "yes you did, my partner here heard you"

    You: "NO I DIDN'T DAMNIT"

Leo: "Ok, now your disrupting the peace, get in the car, your bike will be waiting for you at the impound after you get bailed out".

Its a no-win situation. Besides, what damage did they really do by videotaping your bike. First of all, running is dumb. Hell speeding is dumb, but its tough not too with a bike. But lets say you run, and your so fast he can't identify you (can't see your plate). Lets imagine that the Leo creates some amazing state wide video archive database in which he uploads all of the footage so now whenever someone runs they can search for "yellow suzuki" (as an example). Do you really think they are going to pair it down to YOU?!??! Especially considering they were mostly filming just the bikes and not even you? How many yellow suzukis do you suppose there are in this area?

So given the unlikeliness of them having the amazing imaginary state wide "available at your fingertips" video archive, and the inability to identify a bike without the rider and license plate, I would say the Leos were just enjoying hot chaps and scaring some punks (preventative law enforcement).

    Rest easy my friend!

Just go super fast in public. They can't read a plate at high speed!

Interesting. Seems as though people have been causing trouble after bike night then? They wouldn't be doing this for no reason. Albeit they should not be taking everyones plates. I know of more than one bike that will fit the same description at bike night. Seems like a very loose way to point fingers at trouble makers because the cops can't keep up.

I'll bet that them doing this once works. Next bike night, anyone with an unregistered bike, anyone on a stolen bike, or anyone who goes there only to show how great his bike does burnouts in the parking lot won't show up. Anyone who is legit, and not doing anything wrong, will keep going, and no harm will come to them of it.

of course you should stick up for yourself and your rights. the day we stop doing that is the day we are doomed. i do take issue with them moving your belongings (gear, clothing, etc) without permission to inspect your bike and plate...that's pushing the boundaries.

my (repeated) point is that you have no expectation of privacy, and they have every right to photograph or videotape your bike in a public place. i've never been stopped or harassed for photographing a police car on a public street with or without an officer inside. as much as you might not like it, they have the same and equal right to access, view and/or record a public place as they see fit. nobody would have stopped you from taking photos at bike night, right? wouldn't you have been upset if a cop walked up to you and said you can't take pictures of the event? i sure would.

had they been violating your rights in any way, i'd be standing next to you in support. however, i just don't see your argument here.

The park is state land. The hiway is a state hiway. There has always been a police presence. Steve is meeting with the LEO's. He is aware of everything that went down. IF you have any questions ask me and I can get them to Steve OR he post's here unde MOTORCYCLENIGHT. PM him

Fight your fight if you have that much conviction. If you wanna play their game then I suggest you park your bike off the public roadway, remove your plate and enjoy the festivities. Once you're ready to leave you simply attach your plate and ride on out. Thing is, there's still that pesky VIN which is exposed and there are laws that prevent you from covering it unless you want a fine.

I hear where you're coming from and I don't entirely disagree but if you have nothing to worry about then why are you worrying?

I only hope these fine officers have paid their way in just as the rest of the attendees had to. Now comes the argument of the usage of our tax dollars...

you do know ur shit.. that plate on your bike dont belong to you either .. i do agree it seems a bit odd that they would go to this extent so there must have been previous circumstances that led up to this.. some squids fkd it up for the rest of us. would be nice to recover a few stolen bikes if it was the outcome.
