Hey man, sorry I'm drawing a blank - what were you ridin? I met a lot of new people Thursday.

Thanks for the nice comments, I did have some pretty good laps that day.

The R6 is simply awesome. Granted, I'm coming off a YZF600R which despite its additional girth is an excellent track tool. But the R6 is in a totally different league. I love it.

I have only 2 gripes about it so far. First, the front brakes in stock trim are just terrible. They don't bite nearly as hard as my YZF600R and the fade is way too noticable. I did change out the pads for HH flavor and that seemed to remedy the problem. Initial bite is much better and they don't fade nearly as much. Though, I think SS lines are in my future anyway. Second, I have to get a steering damper. The transition from T6 to T7 is giving me a real nasty headshake. I'm sure whoever was working the treehouse that day got a few good laughs as I passed by.

I used to get that headshake between 7 & 8 as well... i found most of the time that I was the cause of it... once i started using my legs instead of my arms to move my body it smoothed right out. The only time i get headshake in that spot is when i get lazy & pull myself up & over w/ my arms. If i can eliminate headshake through there by not being lazy, i'll do that instead of spending 400 bucks or more on a steering damper

btw, I certainly hope you weren't timing yourself... Tony probably won't like that

I think you're right. I will definitely try to relax my arms more. It would be nice if I didn't need one, I'd rather spend money on a spare set of rims.

yeah...rene would have snapped more photos...but as I went thru turn 2 I caught him taking pics of his new ride...an 06 f of x minus 3 infinity something or other

so I tooted the horn when I went by...

yeah...the one session I sat out...I was standing with rene at the bowl when all we heard was that awkwardly horrible sounds of bike grinding with tarmac and a body flailing on the ground

we were stunned to see it was jims new track toy

at least he saved the helmet!

yes, alot can be said for relaxing your arms ... but some of the fastest guys on 600s there (peter kates, etc say its stupid to run loudon without a damper.

as I got quicker though that section i was on the gas for the transistion and the front end being light and flicking the bike, there is only so much you can do by just using your legs.

if you are running 22s, then you must be moving pretty good up the hill ... a damper might not be a bad investment

yeah, as the pace really picks up it definitely helps... i just wanted him to be aware of the fact that for me, at trackday pace, headshake was a rider error and a steering damper would have been a mask covering up my mistakes.

What i'd suggest is give it a shot next trackday, see if it clears up w/ better technique then decide what works for you. I'm sure PK would love to sell you one up at the track, whether or not you need it
