But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

Were you in the truck then? I was there with my RC helping clean up/load Nazo's bike, then took a quick blast around the track back to my Turn 2 porch to lay out catch some more sun and watch ou guys ride. I got a few funny looks from people, probably wondering what the heck i was doing on the track! I had to get a least one lap! It was killing me watching everyone and not out there this time. Next year I am all over any and every track day I can join! Yahooooooo..

Seeing all of the avatars, I recognize a lot of the bikes, and the riders. I was the guy in the yellow group on the yellow VFR. Pete followed me around the track for a few laps just after lunch, I think, and later on I got some time playing follow-the-leader with Ken.

Once again, the crew Tony has with him for his track days did not disappoint, and put on a tremendous effort with fantastic results. I'll be there next year, for sure!

No, I wasn't in the truck, someone came over and asked if they could use it to get the bike off the track (though I dont remember if I caught their name) I was on the clapped-out, beat up old red & black YZF 600 race bike in the Red group.

    Today's Track Day

Didn't really have time to post until now so here goes......

I want to thank everyone that went to this track day, this was the most enjoyable track day out of the 10 or so that I have been to. It was a great group of people which made the times when I wasn't on the track fun as well.

I want to say a special thanks to a few people as well.

    Brian, Rich and Dan:
Thanks for getting into riding on the track this year. It makes it so much more enjoyable when your good friends are there to ride as well. I hadn't done a track day in quite a while until this year, there were a few reasons, but one of the main ones was that my friends weren't into it. Hopefully we can continue the track days next year.

    Degsy:
Thanks for hanging back and letting me try to keep up with you in multiple sessions. It is a ton of fun when you have someone to follow that allows you to push through some of the mental barriers that you have put up to going faster.

    Nathan, Gary, Joe, Steve, Cyberxen:
Thanks to all of you for making the Red Group a fun group to ride in. Getting all of us out there together and sticking with each other for a bunch of laps was a great time.

    Tony:
Thanks for putting on the track day. As I said above, this was one of the most enjoyable days I have had at the track. I don't know how you keep your self so level headed when all the BS happens with the crashes and people not following the rules but I do appreciate it greatly.

    Mike and the other cornerworkers:
Thanks for taking the time to work the corners. If you weren't there we wouldn't be able to ride so thanks a ton for working and picking us up when we go down.

That's about it for now. Let's get a couple more rides in before the end of October. It looks like I wont be around much from November through January so I need to get a few good ones in before then. (And yes, if I was here for those months there is a good chance I would do some riding, a little cold never killed anyone)

Thanks to all of Tony's crew for another great day at NHIS!
Thanks to the weather for not raining until the drive out!

I was in the first bay, by the food. I rode in the blue group on a red, black, white, and silver CBR600.

I had one close call on the track... a fellow rider stood-me-up by diving inside me on turn 10, attempting to keep up with an instructor who passed me around the outside of 9... it's tight there. I tracked them down, he was very apologetic, we left it at that.

I hope I caused no problems for anyone out there

I said: "I heard many compliments about how the day was run." That's "compliments", not "complaints".

    Today's Track Day

Hi, I was the instructor with the blue cast riding minibikes around all day. I had a great time despite not riding the track. It was one of our best days to be sure.

As for the crashes, I want to say that I disagree with those who say there's no reason to crash at a trackday... I'm psyched that we attract riders who really want to learn and push through the barriers that make high performance riding such a challenge. In any sport involving speed, there's a lot of risk. Trying new things like hanging off, blipping throttle, braking harder, carrying more corner speed are very good reasons to fall.

I would never encourage the "go faster til you crash" method, but I understand that even making steady improvements involves taking new risks. If you crashed for any of these reasons, don't feel bad about...

We try to ID riders who are really in over their heads and intervene before something happens, but those gus usually aren't good listeners... If that was you, then I'd say think about it for a while. You're likely to get hurt...

BTW, I put those X's out for you in the morning. The goal was to give you an easy turn in reference point. From what I saw, it helped about 80% of you to ride smoother and safer as well as faster. That is the power of reference points. Next year I will be running special workshops that will help you develop your own references, not just for turn in, but for roll off, shiftpoints, brakes on, brakes off, throttle on, WOT. The more detail in your plan, the better you get.
