    1198's are FAST!

I got a chance to take an 1198 out on the track yesterday.

HOLY CRAP! Third gear wheelies coming out of 12 and 140 mph on the front straight before I wimped out and put the brakes on going into one. (reminder to self, DO NOT use Hawk braking markers on a 1198! Thank god the thing has great brakes).

That is all. Thanks to Rick Blake for letting me borrow it for a session.

    Re: 1198's are FAST!

+1 I did a few sessions on it as well. Holy crap, that thing is intense. I unintentionally wheelied down the entire back straight ha.

Its amazing how much you have to wring the piss out of a 600 in comparison.

Best dedicated sport bike I have ever ridden. Goes fast, handles even better, and brakes HARD, eh Doc!?!

I had the chance to borrow one for a week on the street. Crazy fast, but still very easy to ride around the city, minus the back breaking ergo's, and its not 5-0 friendly...thats a bike I would like to ride at NJMP!

    Re: 1198's are FAST!

So I hit 140 plus in the front straight on the 1098 no problem if I want, but it sucks in the city. It really does not like to go slow. What is so different about the 1198 other than 10% more horsepower?

    Brakes great all the time.
But engine runs like a frickin' Bucking Bronco on fire at 4,000 degrees ferenheight under 43 MPH.
Therefore it sucks in the city.

My question is what makes a 1198 so much better in the city at lower speeds?

MotoFreak stated that it was easy to ride around the city......

.....But then have a tough time going into T1 if I go 145 and start braking at brake marker 4. BTW i'm slow doc and Ducati's suck anyway

maybe the one motofreak was borrowing had a smaller front sprocket installed...or he was just so excited to ride a ducati he forgot the shortcomings (his aprillia just isnt the same)

as for the ducati 4 valve twins sucking in traffic...like idle rpms and such...im totally familiar with that one. mine stalls and pops and bitches. they like the higher engine speeds....

Is that why you smelled bad when you came in off of that.

Now I understand why you ran to the head.

I've ridden the Streetfighter and was floored by how well mannered it was at low speed/low rpm/low throttle input. That thing would just purr at 3k RPM in 1st, it was almost as smooth as my ST3 after remapping it. I haven't tried a 1098 or 1198 so I dunno if the tune is radically different or not, but Duc can certainly make the big mill behave if they want to.

If they have the new ducati traction control mapping on there, that shit is brilliant, and completely tames the 4valver at low RPMS. The new multi is the smoothest riding superbike motored bike in the world... by a Loooooong way.
