Are shorty brake & clutch levers more crash proof than full length OEM levers, or just bling?

coming off the back straight on an rm65, pushing down on the bars farther then the pudgy tires allow me to, then WHOOSHHH...off the track

stand the bike up, brush it off, kick start it a few times to run...do a few more sessions for the day

Shorties are slightly less likely to break, just because they don't have as much exposure as the OEM "full length" ones.
The foldy ones are a little less likely to break in a crash.

Foldies can be found on fleabay for ~$50ish (shipped from somewhere in China, of course).

I pay $35 shipped for my full length, non foldie levers. They are simultaneously cheap and blingie.
I could go for the shorties for the same price.. but the brakes on the 'strom suck and require all four fingers.. and I like having the same setup on all my stuff.

LOLOLOL No biggie......seems as I have seen with 06 GSXR's the slipper needs lots of play and they tend to not allow for a good engagement of the clutch. Real short throw can affect the engagement

Re: My 1st on track crash :-( The shinny bike not so shinny now

Sorry to hear about the whole incident. The first one can be a big wake up call, but, it's nice that only the bike was damaged. I'll echo the suggestions of others and recommend a track bike for you now. You certainly have the bug and something other than a 1000cc street beast may be a better tool to improve yourself. I love my SV but anything small, light and cheap will be a hot ticket to learn on. Ex500's seem to go for nothing these days, or for something newer the ninja 300 is a hot topic.

I'll plug that my wicked-cheap-next-town-over gsxr 600 is for sale.

Pretty sure my get off got an honorable mention in there too. If you can't be famous, might as well be infamous.

Saw your bike on the crash truck 😯 hope you get it sorted soon.

Very good write up. I know for me doing my first trackday at loudon two weeks ago you were one of the first guys I met and put some of my anxieties at ease. This blog is already helping me. I'm glad your ok and I know from talking to you that you wanted to get a smaller bike for the track. If you need to borrow some leathers I bought a rev'it used one piece from seacoast. They gave me a good deal. Size46. I don't even want to ride my 750 on the street anymore. I'd like to turn it into a trackday bike and just get something more comfortable for the street. If anyone around manchester wants to help with that project? Let me know lol

That disaster will only cost about 200 bucks to fix back to better than it was before (+100mph into the ground at turn 1 in NH)

The leathers are complete crap... see if Eric has any more vanson suits left or something. I'd make that a priority.

Re: My 1st on track crash :-( The shinny bike not so shinny now

Last night I pulled all the fairings and inspected for and damage, Frame/rolling gear looks fine. I may still call up Peter K and have it put to the laser to make sure. I also ordered the new fairing kit and some other parts. Next step will be to call Scott at Lionheart. I also have to try and sell some stuff on ebay because I have made bad money decisions and living paycheck to paycheck right now. The 81 GS1100 is probably gonna go to fund a real track bike. SV650 or Gixxer 600. I am gonna pull the carbs and clean and sync them tonight and make sure it runs good. I had a float stick and hydro-lock a cylinder. Have to make sure it did not do any damage. Happened when I want to start it one day. :-( Fingers crossed.
