    2002 Suzuki TL1000R

Hey Guys what's up...i haven't been on in a while but need some advice...i have Suzuki TL1000R and am considering going up 3 teeth on the rear sprocket and down 1 tooth in the front and i can see this being a great setup for riding in NHS considering it's a short course....But and it's a BIG BUT....how much is this going to affect my street riding???? I do hop on the Highway occasionally and slab it so how much will this hurt my Top Speed...i ain't looking to do 170MPH with this set up but would like to be able to blast it up to 145-150 MPH...if need be.....Help me out guys...give it to me straight and realistic....i know you won't disappoint ....Thanx Guyz....

Not that 150 in Fall River will ever be needed.

    Re: 2002 Suzuki TL1000R

i personally think that since the TLR is such a torque beast that the set up youre talking about could be treacherous. you come out of 2,3,10 or 12 and give it too much...youre gonna find yourself spinning the rear drifting to the edge of the track all while wheeling and with the stellar performance of the rotary dampener on the TLR () i think your looking for trouble with a tank slapper or worse.
i dont know you and maybe thats how you like to ride but i think a stock gearing setup would be best for throttle control and streetablity. i see no advantage to that setup.

i'd say go up 3 in the back or down one in the front, not both. either or will give you a bit more zip in the lowend without creating an overweight stunt bike.

Stay with stock gearing you'll thank me when your not taking her home on a trailer.

I run a Superhawk up there on track days and stock gearing is more than adequate. Put it in 2nd and leave it there until the front straight. Then you'll see 4th maybe.

Well, go make a "Blazing Saddles" or "History of the World" reference and I'll leave it alone.

I guarantee that you would never hear that statement from PK.

As for the gearing change. On my RC Ive gone two up in the back and one down in the front. It wakes the bike up for sure.

These torque monsters like to pull hard under load...not spin their brains out.... leave stock for now

Better use of $ - a dyno run/chart - then *stare* at the torque curve - shift gears just around the top of the torque curve - more important you want to pick up the next gear where the rpm's start in the raise of the torque curve....

Remember the torque curve is your rate of acceleration curve - So going over the peak of the torque curve give you decreasing rate of acceleration... even though the HP curve continues to climb to the moon...

I think it would be closer to
    "why even bother"
Don't get me wrong I love the TL, but she doesn't make the best race bike. Especially at a tight track like Loudon where you could probably go faster on an SV

5252 RPMs is where all bikes make the same HP as torque.

The July 2009 issue of Super Streetbike has a feature on the TL1000R starting on Pg 72. Yours truly is on pg 74 in the top right hand corner.
