    2015 Track Days Postings

I was wondering what's the earliest that the track days will be posted for 2015. Tony's, Fishtail, Penguin or Boston Moto, it dosen't matter. I really wanted to run Thompson again, minus the damn rain.

What good would next year's dates do for you now? In general, firm dates are released around the end of the year. We have preliminary stuff from some tracks, but things change.

You can do Thompson on Oct 10 and/or 11 of this year, if you'd like.

The fact is that TTD has an actual business model and Tony is a business man first, rider second. I rode with Bomo a few years ago, they are great guys but Tony has a monopoly on the Northeast track day game.

I am super curious about the economics of a trackday org. It does seem like TTD is doing something right. I rode almost exclusively with TTD this year because of the pricing structure.

I'm a big fan of NYST's pricing structure. Cut out the middle man, pass on savings to rider. They also have some good coaches.

I think it really boils down to what your end game is. Some org's are heavily geared towards track day riders, some are more for those with racing aspirations.

I agree, if I didnt travel for work I would be all over the NYST member days. Just a bit too far away when you're flying in at 6pm Friday and out at 6am Monday.

    Re: 2015 Track Days Postings

I'm curious which direction pricing will go when we have 5 tracks within 3 hours. Used to be "only game in town, gotta pay to play". Now what will be the reason for ongoing price increases?

I see more and more tracks doing the NYST method of direct sales. Hell, maybe one day a site like Liftoptia where tracks can post openings for specific days.

Which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on where you are as a track day customer and rider.

I haven't ridden with them, but IMHO, more track day orgs seems better than fewer.

I think NESBA also stopped organizing track days. For 2014 their schedule was taken over by an org called "N2" - but was that a one-season thing, or is that org going to carry on?

So for the time being, the groups that run in the Northeast are:

    TTD
    TPM
    N2?

    Anybody else I'm missing?

    Re: 2015 Track Days Postings

I think as more tracks open (Palmer and Tamworth) pricing will defintely stabilize as track days dates will increase with frequency. With only 2-3 days per month available for the average Northeast rider price can be increased as demand is greater then supply, but with Palmer and Tamworth open a guy in central New England will have at his/her disposal ATLEAST 6-8 opportunities per month to ride (NJMP, NYST, NHMS, Thompson, Palmer, Tamworth) so supply could potentially out pace demand. THis will bring the prices down or at least hold them at current levels.

Same shit happens with crude oil prices......... as demand goes up, so does price. When there is surplus oil, price comes down. Basic economics.

TTD is wise to this and assuming all these tracks open and remain open he will have to be smart about his price point.

    Re: 2015 Track Days Postings

I like ttd but I found them to be in the top of the price range... I also assume nhis will struggle with Palmer,Tamworth and Thompson being open.. I think nhis is long overdue for a new road course.
Nyst member day pricing is awesome however the day seemed disorganized compared to ttd or fishtail.

The NY track is somewhat unique in that it's owners like to ride (they started as trackday riders).

Most tracks are in the rental business - not the trackday business. Most tracks prefer to hand off the duties associated with running a successful trackday (cars or bikes).

As for pricing, TTD members end up paying around $175 per day when averaged over the year (assuming you do about 10 days per year). If you choose not to purchase the membership, then you obviously pay more per day. I may be biased, but I think $175 is a pretty fair price given what we offer.

    This.

I love the TTD org. The people are great, my friends all ride there, my dog even knows the staff and I love going to the track with them. I know exactly what I'm getting buying a day from Tony but to hit the $175 mark I need to spend $1750 a year. I've said it before and I'd say it again to me the sweet spot would be something around $75 a month and 5 days. It works out to $180 a day vs but you get the commitment of 5 days being sold and I'd gladly hand over my CC number vs. surfing for deals all the time.

Surfing to deals landed me to Fishtail for a date this year that was no frills and $170. I thought it was perfect.

My "budget" for the year going in was 8 days. I think I've done ~16 so far, I legit lost count. I couldn't have afforded that many days with any other org, including NYST (due to the drive). For addicts, the pricing and 2-day events really work. Hoping to see lots of 2-days for 2015 as well.

    Re: 2015 Track Days Postings

I just did the math. $209.17/day for the TTDs I did in 2014. That includes the $15 paypal surcharge because I waited until the 11th hour. Not quite the bang/buck I hoped for, but not bad either. For that I got track days that run like clockwork. And a ton of classroom time with very good instructors and control riders.

Fishtail is the only org that I know of that runs at NHMS that I have not done a day with. They've been highly recommended to me, but I just can't handle their cost. Someone said TTD is at the top of the price range. But they aren't. Fishtail beats 'em here. I see they added a 'no frills' day for downright reasonable money. That's great. But it was only one day and only at CT. I know they serve food. But honestly, I'll keep my $$ and brown bag it, thanks. A shame too because I have a coworker which pretty much only rides with them, and I'd love to do a day with him.

I am also excited about the new tracks (Palmer and most especially Tamworth).

I agree. Although didn't Penguin's deal for the season work something like that?
