And more track time with less people on track beats that.

More time. With some more liberal passing guidelines I can work around those that chronically motor the lesser scoots.

    OK, so to summarize.

    The wish list is:

    - open track.
    - Long sessions.
    - Low cost.
    - Rain Insurance.
    - Weekends only.
    - And no passing rules that might interfere with a hot lap.

    Got it.

    Or,

    Long sessions > open track

The rest have realistic challenges that are only resolved completely by making things prohibitively expensive.

Like I said, I'd much prefer to get stuck in traffic ON the track than sit in the pit watching traffic go by. A bad lap is better than no lap. That is my justification for preferring 20 minute sessions.

As for people that give up after 10-15 minutes of riding no matter the heat...... I can't understand. Sure, maybe at race pace, but it has been brought up time and time again that trackdays are NOT for going race pace. If you are spent after 5 sessions or 15 minutes into a session, you may want to look into letting the bike do more work.

Nice! Let me know when this happens. I'll retire from racing and just do trackdays.

So everyone that wants to do a weekend track day is going to be at Thompson this weekend right? Neither Friday or Saturday is sold out. What's up with that? A great track that's close to most of you, a weekend day, etc...

I'd be there if I wasn't planning to go to the NC trackday the following week...and then spend a couple days slinging mud at Hatfield & McCoy

    Re: 2015 Track Days Postings

Remember, we are running both the short and long course, so lots of fun to be had.

The only rain scheduled is overnight on Friday... looking like track time hours both days should be nice.

Also, I am not implementing the late payment fee this event, so you can just show up (with cash please, no time to process credit cards at tech)

From the guy who rides dirt bikes on the pavement... haha!

Riding a 600/750/1000 etc, and REALLY riding it, on the track for 15 minutes is a lot of work. I could ride my motard all day long, but racing my 600 for 8 laps was about 11 minutes and I was totally smoked and sweating balls at the end.

    Totally.

I still disagree with this. I guess I just have a different perspective though. Passing people in heavy traffic isn't really developing your passing skills; usually, it's just a dangerous closing speed and encourages boneheaded moves as people get frustrated with being held up. Passing people who are only slightly slower than you is what really develops passing skills, and this is more likely to happen in a more open session with people of similar skill levels.

Add this to the fact that I think 15 minutes is plenty of time especially on a supersport bike (uncomfortable, heavy, wrestling it around, higher speeds under braking requiring more strength), and I'd rather have a more open session with 8 "hot" laps than a crowded session with 12 laps.

I also have always run warmers ever since I got them and would never go back, even for a track day. It adds safety, prevents you from making a boneheaded cold tire crash, removes the BS excuse of "oh my tires were cold" , and increases the amount of your track time that you can take advantage of. People here are talking about 2 laps to warm tires and they are the cost-conscious people it seems. If you can gain 2 hot laps per session, 7 sessions per day, and 5 or 6 track days a year, you've gained a FREE track day for a set of warmers. They cost about 250 used and can be sold for the same price when you are done with them

    Re: 2015 Track Days Postings

I completely agree about the warmers. I did my first trackday in years without warmers this year and hated it. Unfortunately power is not something every track gives away and the common mentality among trackday providers is "don't use warmers, they aren't needed". From now on, I'll just bring my own generator and let it run at full song all day in the parking lot.

As for big bikes and being tired, I've run a 550lb 1200 around the track all day long instructing doing double sessions. It's no more tiring than a light bike. Remember, this isn't race pace.

IMO, there is just as much "heavy traffic" in 15 minute sessions in both intermediates than in the single 20 minute session intermediate group. Even with 15 minute sessions, I was frustrated and really disappointed with how many clean laps I got in the first half of the day. As soon as I switched to the fastest group I started to enjoy the day.
