    Want to take beginner course

I have been riding for about 10 years now, I have had a variety of bikes:

    1. 1982 Yamaha XS400 Maxim
    2. 1985 GPZ550
    3. 1986 Ninja 600R
    4. 1991 CBR600F2
    5. 2000 Buell Cyclone M2
    6. 2002 Honda RC51

I have always been pretty conservative with cornering, I am afraid of loosing on the corners, so I have been thinking of taking a course to improve my riding skills. Can anyone reccomend any course or instructor? I am not trying to become a road racer just looking to improve my abilities.

    Thanks
    Justin

Or do a Track Day...you can ease in the corner speed and gain some better confidence and see there is a TON the of more Lean angle and tire grip than what you get on the street. Also, I found it very easy to relax a bunch more when you don't have to worry about cars, cops, pot holes, dirt and what not....

All the local trackday companies will be more than happy to have you. You can get as much, or as little as you want out of it. Boston moto has an intro program, as does tony's track days (I believe). Bomo even has a cr that rides an m2. He may take pity on you and show you some moves.

Try Total Control and follow up with a Tony's track day (Total Control on day one, track day on day 2)

You also sound like a candidate for: Shameless Plug

One of the main benefits in the Intro to Track Riding Program is it takes a first timer student and puts them in a 2-1 ratio with their rider coach. We're also there to help unpack, setup, and basically take care of ALL the details throughout the day.... AND you get a video of you (following you) from the end of that day. PLENTY of folks here have done and loved it, despite last year being a "teething" year for us and the program. There is also the MSF Sport Bike riders program tailored specifically to sport bike riders, wasn't sure if that was the one at the link above, but might be a "step" towards the track if that's your end goal!

Correction, The ARC-ST is the civilian version of the MSF military sport bike course, but they are quick to say that it is for ALL types of motorcycle riders.

Re: Want to take beginner course

I have been dying to sign-up for an Intro Tack Day, but have been a little intimidated. What is the typical skill level at the course? Also I currently have an ER-6N which obviously isn't the best track bike. Given my skill I doubt my pace would be all that blistering!

Basically I am just looking to have a little fun while getting the chance to push the bike a bit harder than i would comfortably be able to do on the streets (and to just learn how to ride better).

So to sum up...given the variables above...would I look like a total douche?

I also plan on doing the intro to tack days with Bomo as soon as I make it back up north. I have been riding streetbikes for almost 9 years now and have yet to hit the track im pretty much in the same boat as you DB
