The first session in Level 1, you are in rain mode, but after that you are in rain or sport (your choice); this is difficult for them to monitor since you can change modes on the fly. The only crash that will take you out for the day is if you scratch your helmet.

    Re: COTA Track days

Just reading apparently on single days only have 5 sessions and you're responsible for up to 1250 in damage to the machine.... going to be calling but with all the terms especially first time they don't seem to be very attractive to do

I'm not sure I'd pay that much just for a day. Especially since we have access to a world class layouts in out backyard (Palmer and Tamworth)

I dunno. That remains to be seen. I'm not marketing. I really don't think I'd pay that much to ride there.

This back n fourth and some of the comments and rules.
FYI I'm with you 100% on the I'd never pay that money for a TD
Now calling Palmer a world class track or putting it next to COTA (which I haven't ridden obviously) made me giggle too

    Re: COTA Track days

I think Palmer has the best layout in this country until a track proves me wrong. If it had runoff there would be no question. Tamworth is very similar. Existing US tracks (that I know) ride like junk comparatively. COTA is interesting. I would LOVE to go, but not at 1500 bucks to play. Just my opinion. If money were no object I'd hit it.

I looked for a review from Rossi or Marquez on our fine NE tracks, nothing - my google must be broken.

Oh geez, Yes, I know they are not FIM spec, but it doesn't mean they aren't better layouts than the mostly cobbled together tracks that we have in the U.S. Forget that I offered my thoughts on this thread.

I've ridden COTA on a S1KRR with all the powah. It's indeed a world class track, but I actually have more fun at technical tracks like Palmer.

It's just my preference. I just returned from Jennings GP in Florida and was faster through the more technical parts than the fast sweeping parts. I love both, but having been weened t Bryar and then NHMS (Loudon), my natural state is tight and twisty.

    Here's the COTA video:

I think it's like pornography - you know it when you see it.

A drag-strip is not technical, but the Nurburgring is. I guess it depends on the amount and type of corners, elevation changes, etc. If a track is a fairly simple oval, I wouldn't say it's technical?

I'm curious what Ken's answer is. He likes to give things a lot of thought and I have a feeling he has an opinion.

    Re: COTA Track days

Have you been there yet? Have you looked at photos of the layout? Have you read reviews of professional drivers who have been there? It is not out of the ballpark of a world class track (minus the facilities, which I could give 2 shits about). I'm not marketing TTD or Palmer, I'm just stoked on riding there and it happens to be near my house!

    Here's a few quotes from onehotlap.com

Jumping with both feet on the Palmer opportunity was a BOLD move that paid off! Of the 25-30 racetracks that I’ve driven in North America, there are only a few that really stand out with their distinctly own character: The Glen, Tremblant, V.I.R., and Laguna Seca come to mind first. The common thread between all of them: rollercoaster effect.

Palmer is a track where you are constantly mixing the driver inputs (accelerating, turning, braking) and playing with the right mixture that will keep you at the edge of the friction circle. Trailbraking at triple digits? Check. Drifting around a concrete wall? Check. 4-wheel drift? Many checks. Blind turns, camber, off-camber, steep uphills, winding downhills, a carrousel turn, and a wild sequence of turns leading up to the front straight.

Palmer is a track for drivers designed and run by drivers. I will be going back there many times for the unique driving experience. This is a mini Nurburgring on steroids only an hour and a half from Boston. Palmer is a hidden gem
