2006 DRZ400SM
It has a decent learning curve, and isn't exactly exciting when you're falling on your ass, teetering, and moving slow. Once you get good, start sweeping, maybe even some moguls and it gets a loooot less cold.
I just recently agreed to buy a pair of skiis off my brother, and I've been looking at sleds on craigslist. I hope to get skiing again as of this winter, and maybe sledding as well. I'm a computer nerd, so being a shut in is usually alright with me. But lately been feeling a little trapped in.

Not sure how long ago, but riding snow on mountains is one of the few sports that has really changed a ton in the last 10 or 15 years...snowmaking and grooming equipment has gotten SO much better than it used to be, conditions are usually very good. Used to hit boilerplate ice regularly...now, hardly ever. Plus, one of the best inventions ever happened, snowboarding! Try it!
I got sick of skiing after many years, quit, and started dreading winter. Discovered snowboarding, now I pray for snow!
If you have decent clothes, you shouldn't be cold at all...plus it's a wicked workout...screw those gerbil wheels at the gym, get a lil adrenaline with your exercise.
See also beer league ice hockey.
In the OP you said you dont' like being cold. Winter sports don't mean you have to be cold. If you dress right the temperature won't matter. Sure you have to learn how to dress and it takes some getting used to, but eventually you adapt and it really doesn't make a difference.
There are tons of things you can do outside in the winter, some cheap, some not. My advice is overcome your fear of the cold and find which option suits you best.
Can we got some damn ice already?!?!

Video games + WRC + Speed2. Off season is the best time to save money for the on season.![]()
Work on the house.
Try to get on the slopes (I freaking HATE cold w/o snow; oddly enough to me, I'd probably be happier living in VT or NH than CT for this reason)
Try to read a book.
Maybe turn a wrench on the bikes.
Still ride on the street, about as infrequently as I do during race season.
Masterbate frequently.

spend stupid amounts of money on new riding gear, snowboard, and drink lots of beer. annnnd now adding to the list reading through threads finding out who copes with the winter by means of masturbation, but why am I not believing that doesn't happen during the riding season too?![]()
This year its also bike trainer and running, bike trainer and running, bike trainer and running, bike trainer and running. Signed up for the Tour of the Battenkill in April, my first cycling race ever, and also plan on doing the indoor time trial at Landry's in Boston. Prior plan was for a February marathon, but my knee has been on the fritz since October. So after some off and on running waiting for it to magically get better (which it didn't), I just took the past 3 weeks off total from running (continued to crush bike trainer) and ran just about 4 miles in total the other night to the gym and back and felt good, finally. If I can get my running back in check I'll try to live up to that goal. When and if I sign up for another triathalon I'll get myself back in the pool, but swimming is so damn boring. Also, lots of Yoga, don't knock it until you try it.
Like I said, more hobbies than you can shake a stick at.

Marry a proper Maine woman. You know - shade in Summer, warmth in Winter.
Going to Jennings GP for 3 days in Jan as therapy, I will let you know if it works or the problem gets worse!!
