    Fitting boots over leathers

So my wife got me some Cortech Latigo RR leathers for Christmas. The leathers fit pretty good with enough room for a back protector and possibly a chest/back protector. Next step was to try some boots. My touring type boots go over them ok, but I went to try on some Cortech and A* SMX5 boots. I am a size 10 shoe. Both brands of boots fit well in the foot at size 10 but tried both brands in 10 and 11 and couldn't zip the boots until I hit size 12. Even tried some A* size 10 with the speed lace, rear zipper type of setup and nothing would zip over my ankle. Figuring I am somehow doing a simple thing wrong 4 different people tried to zip about 5 pair of boots on me and couldn't do it. We tried the zipper cuffs on the leathers zipped, unzipped, halfway between, socks, no socks, etc. Anyone out there with large ankles or calves that have had success with some other brand of track boot?

    Thanks.

Lou (loudog) on here has a set of Dainese boots that go under your leathers. Pricey if I remember correctly but you may want to go this route. I know they held up pretty well in his crash. Very solid boots.

    Fitting boots over leathers

My A* smx-5's fit over my leathers. I have to pull the legs up a little bit because I'm short. I have rather thick calves too so I'm not sure why you can't get yours on.

I'm betting it's the suit that is the issue not the boot. .02

I think one thing that might be part suit related is there are 2 zippers on the calves of these leathers and that is causing some material to bunch up. A couple guys I know have the same leathers though and they aren't having any issues getting them under their boots. Their calves are smaller. Maybe I will try the boots again with the Vanson leathers I have been borrowing the last 2 years.

    Re: Fitting boots over leathers

I bought a pair of Technic pants used late last summer. They are a tight fit under my TCX S-Race boots. The boots zip closed easily with just jeans (over the boot) but are a bear with the leathers tucked in. I just assumed that was how it was supposed to be.

But the TCXs do zip closed for me.

Maybe try some TCXs?! I think they are a lot like the Cortech boots you were looking at. (Although way more expensive!)

I have little girl calves and had to sell an A* suit I bought brand new because the calves were made for a gorilla. I'm not calling you a fat ass but being a "european cut suit" guy I've always had problems with suits being made for the chubbies. Especially in the calves.

How far in the boots are you trying to tuck in your leathers? I have SiDi Vortice boots and a Dainese 2 peice and I only tuck my pants in the boots maybe 3-4" at most. Any more than that, and 2 things happen...1, I have a similar issue as you are describing getting them buckled up, a 2, if I tuck them to far in, they pull tight on my knees when I'm riding the bike. Try sitting on the first step of a stairway and put your boots on with your knee bent as close to you as possible. Doing that seems to work good for me when I'm gearing up

LOL - decent shape 180 lbs, working to get back to 175. But too often I do the leg part of my workout with more enthusiasm than the upper body part.

Thanks so much that bottom step knee way bent thing did the trick. Even my no name track boots fit over them this time.

Sidi Vertigos and others have an adjuster on the back of the boot.

yup. my leathers go all the way down to the top of my foot but i have to pull them up when the boots go on. i think the knee armor gets in the way if i dont.
