What's a track SV650 worth? GSX-R forks and Penske triple adjustable rear

This is not a "for sale" thread. I just want to know the value of the bike.

A friend of mine expressed interest in my track bike, and I have no clue what to ask for it. It's an 03 SV650 with GSXR front forks (Showa, 03 GSX-R750 IIRC) and a triple adjustable Penske rear shock. It was setup by GMD Computrack for a 240-260lb rider. The bike has approximately 30K on the odometer. Dented, but perfectly functional tank. Currently it has no body work, but I do have flimsy imported street fairings to go with it. The bike comes with title signed over by previous owner, with the buyer portion empty. What should I ask for it? I know what I have into it (over 5K), but I'm guessing asking that would be way too much.

Unfortunately their value has decreased a smidge with age and the introduction of the Aprilia & KTM "super lightweights"... These new bikes aren't cutting into the SV market TOOO much since their pricing is on a different planet, but... it's also going to shrink your target market for track only SV's to mainly track day junkies as they can't really compete against the Aprilia & KTM's on the racing scene.

A really solid, race-ready SV, in tip top mechanical and cosmetic condition AND extra parts like stands & warmers is probably worth about... 3-3.5k? Maybe 4k for exceptional examples?

Given your description, without seeing or riding it, no extras... about 2-2.5k maybe? I think that would probably be a fair deal for a couple of friends.

Then again, I could be about 500 bucks too high on all my estimates given my personal bias All I know is that I'll probably never sell my SV and it'll likely become my "forever bike" as it's worth a lot more to me than it would be worth to anyone else... which is a little sad, but it also means I'll probably always have it, so... YAY!

    It's not a track-only bike, but here's a recent comparo: 2005 SV650 with extras $2500 OBO

I totally agree with Pete…..other than the front end and rear shock unfortunately there seems to be nothing really adding to the value. I don’t want to get into how the front end changes what classes it can run.

The lower end of 2k is what I’d expect it would be worth.

Pete can get on any bike and run at the front so you’d have to be a very good rider to expect to be competitive at the expert level.

It has gsx-r calipers and brand new Galfer rotors that I forgot to mention. It also has aftermarket rearsets, but I don't remember which ones. Does that add value?

to a racer, it almost lowers the value because it limits them to what races the bike is legal for. Also, 06+ forks are the more desired setup. for track day riders, it would increase a tiny bit. i'd think $2k is what you'd be getting unless you want to deal with shipping it to a buyer outside New England.

I don’t doubt any of the info here, you know race bikes, I don’t.

It’s just interesting having just looked for a cheap bike to teach my wife before she bought the ‘22 Rebel, the TRASH out there for under 3 grand.

Either pit bikes made by manufacturers I’d never heard of, or bikes not running.

An SV650 is kinda a bike everyone knows.

What’s it take to make it road worthy?

But if the goal is to just come to a decent number to sell a friend a race bike that’s one thing

Just curious if the goal was to pocket as much cash as possible what the reality is of making it road worthy and selling it in this market.

Market it well at the right time of the season, do a valve adjustment, fluid flush and you could get $2500 on a track day page for sure. Wait until after the first two weekends when someone is not by the bug but doesn’t want to wreck their fancy street bike.

They are transitioning more into a track day bike and not so much a competitive race bike. The cost of bodywork on a panigale definitely exceeds the cost of a fairly setup SV.

I have a set of cheap, flimsy aftermarket fairings for it. So, it's not difficult to make it into a street-legal bike. The tank has a sizable dent, so it would still be ugly as sin. I have an ugly dented exhaust to go with it. So the answer to "what's it take to make it road worthy" depends on how nice you want the end result to look. I have a round headlight bucket somewhere, leftover from one of the projects. It's an SV-S, but you can get brackets to mount that headlight. Making into a somewhat of a streetfighter/naked bike should be pretty easy. Just get some brackets for headlight, slap a tail and some bar end mirrors on it and call it a day. In fact, I might do this myself if I ever get a weekend when I have nothing better to do.

The reason why I am considering selling it is lack of time. It's not like I urgently need that two grand, it just pains me to see it sit. And it sits right next to a much newer and nicer SV that I have no time to ride either.

Many track bikes don’t have titles.

Some are crashed street bikes with salvage titles.

Some might even have been purchased new with a certificate of origin and never registered. Rather common with dirt bikes: the CRF100F we bought had all the dealer paperwork including COO.

But a lot of them have rather murky ownership history.

My GSX-R750 is being converted for track only and I have the title. How it will be valued once sold is unknown.

My opinion is don’t limit yourself to track guys. Make it inspection sticker worthy, even sketchily, and throw the “iconic Suzuki classic” on Craigslist for like five grand and see who you hook.
