Thank you for Registering for the July 3rd Sportbike Track Time Track Day at Monticello Motor Club (MMC)!

We are all excited for the first motorcycle event at this premier facility, which to date has been limited to members only.

There have been a lot of calls and e-mails being sent to the track, please direct all questions for motorcycle events at MMC to the staff at Sportbike Track Time (e-mail is best). Registration Info - patty@sportbiketracktime.com

Let me try to answer some of the most common questions here and make you aware of some the special rules that we have for events at MMC.

Please realize this is Private Club, not an open to the public race track like all the other tracks. We are literally guests at this facility and need to treat the track and staff with a greater level respect.

The paddock is small and there are limited areas for spectators. As you know at other venues you can simply pay your gate fee and hang out to watch and eat hamburgers; that is not the case here. This event is for participants and crew only.

We ask that if crew is coming to assist and not traveling with you, please write to me at this e-mail so we can address your special need. We have a limited number of people we can place on a guest list.
At the bottom of this e-mail you’ll see we have more dates scheduled at MMC (more may be added) and we want to be invited back, so please read and comply with the rules for this facility:

Sportbike Track Time – Monticello Rules

• No Pets are allowed
• No drugs or alcohol are permitted
• No litter of any kind is to be left behind (there are trash cans)
• There is no disposal of waste oil or coolant at the facility
• No Pit Vehicles will be allowed (paddock is small)
• The Clubhouse can be used on the LOWER LEVEL ONLY, the 2nd floor is for MMC members only. This rule is absolute
• Non essential vehicles, tow vehicles or RVs will be parked in the North Paddock if necessary to make the South Paddock more manageable

Answers to Common Questions:

• There is no a Gate Fee
• There is not camping at the track (see below for hotels and campground information)
• There will be fuel available for purchase (bring your own, it is pricey)
• There will be Michelin Tire Service available
• There is limited 120v power available in the paddock (no charge)
• There are no garages
• There is a lunch available for purchase
• Gate will open at 7 am and be closed at 9:30 am

When we left there were no serious incidents, so hopefully it stayed that way.

There are a few corners that definitely need some more protection (entry to front straight, for example) but for a reasonable rider at a trackday... it can be a fun time and relatively safe.

Most incidents never reached the guardrail or tires, so that's good.

Guy pitted next to us had a moment entering a corner, stood it and ran off the track... and realized there was no where to go so dumped it quickly.

It's definitely a place where you want to try and make the corner no matter what. If you lowside, you will likely not reach anything (except for entry to straight)... so you may as well look through the corner and give it a shot.

Let's see...

At NHMS, I believe that Turns 8 and the bottom of 9/10 are the most dangerous.

My reasoning is that these are the high speed areas with minimal run off.

Most other areas that have minimal runoff (12/2/3) are not high speed.

This is similar to Monticello. Some places, if you go down or worse... drive off the track... you're in for a world of hurt.

I certainly saw places at Monticello that someone could get "sucked in" to trouble.

After one session, I predicted to Graham and Ken the first crash (Turn 6? At the bottom of the hill after the left hand sweeper). Sure enough, the second session someone went down there. Fortunately, he crashed on the track and did not reach the barriers. My prediction was based solely on the places that sucked me in during the first session.


The track is very flowing and as we gained confidence...we gained speed.

Several times the ex-racer in me said, twist the throttle! Fortunately, the tires stuck and there were no incidents.

So... I guess I would rate it about equal to Loudon overall.

STT did a good job running their program too. Denno from BM was in a vest, so I assume he had/has something to do with them, and they should all be commended for their efforts and a good day.

I only hope that this is the beginning of the Monticello improvements and trackdays. And I really hope they get a garage area... or it's going to suck there on wet days.

Correction...

I should have said that IF Monticello puts AIRFENCE in a few corners, I feel the danger level would be on par with NHMS.

Right now, I feel NHMS is "safer" by a factor of whatever benefit airfence provides over just tires.
