    Lodging near Thompson Speedway

Looking to minimize the morning rush and stay somewhere within 20 minutes of the track. Good and cheap fits. I'm only there to sleep. Bedbug free is a plus.

    Whatcha got??

I'm assuming you've already considered / thrown out sleeping in a tent? Can't beat the price or the commute to the track...

Anybody know if they allow that at Thompson?

Sure did. Threw that out the window after my college days.

Waking up clammy and gross with no way to shower or brush my teeth then continuing to sweat all day just in time for a 2+ hour ride home isn't appealing.

Hmm...I guess maybe the facilities are a little more spartan than NYST or NHMS.

When the hell is Thompson gonna step up and install some showers man??? It's frustrating to drop $400 for a couple days at the track and not have the proper facilities there. Some of you have seen me using my solar camping shower before....Frigg it, I'm gonna skip the bathing suit from now on and just go naked. That's my protest

So I don't know if this was actually answered - can you camp at the track Sunday night? Also, what else do I need to know about this track? Do they have garages? Power? I've never been there.

    Re: Lodging near Thompson Speedway

I was in the same boat and reached out for the following info:

"Thompson is a nice track. Two variations, i.e. a long or short version of turn #4. Both are good, with the longer one being a bit more challenging for most (hint: trail braking). If it's raining or damp, go easy on the entries to 1 and 5 (the entry to passing under the bridge) until it's dry. I don't even bother riding in the wet anymore, and have spent a couple wet sessions watching from the bridge as people tuck their front ends in both those turns. Double apex 5 and get yourself tight left on the exit. If you're wide at the exit, don't try to correct. Instead go easier on the throttle, as the track drops away slightly and will pull you wide. I've seen a couple people run off track or highside on the exit to 5 because of those 2 mistakes. I've found that I like to enter 6 (sweeping right) a bit to the left, and then gradually pull it back towards the curbing during the turn. The last left turn as you leave the oval drops away slightly at the transition. The 2 right turns in the back section coming onto the straight are nice and fast, with a little rise just after the last corner worker's station that will get your front end light if you're hard on the gas. I haven't seen anyone crash there, but it can be a bit disconcerting the first time it happens. Just keep your weight forward and low and stay on it; a slightly higher gear helps, too. There's a kink about 2/3 down the straight that can be a pinch point. Best not to be passing on the left in that section. Lather, rinse, repeat - and enjoy. Fishtail usually runs 20 minute sessions, so your legs will be getting a good workout. Bring some ibuprofen for the end of the day.

As for services: electric in the garages only. I don't think they have "track" air (Pirelli always has something set up at Tony's), but a bicycle pump works just fine. Most days, I just set to 30/30 for the first session and let out some air after each session until the hot pressures are stable. I know you like to use tire warmers, but I haven't made the investment yet, and just consider the first 2 laps throwaways as I ramp up to speed. It should be hot enough this week that you'll have plenty of grip all day anyway. Good bathrooms. No showers, which completely sucks. I've been seeing a number of people using "camp showers" at the end of the day (some sort of black water pouch that you leave in the sun all day to get warm water). There's usually a food vendor next to the paddock with basic grease truck fare: cheese steaks, burgers, sausage, french fries. On site gas pumps that take a credit card (note: you need to swipe your card a 2nd time after pumping if you want a receipt)."

Yes you can camp for free. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the restaurant from the garage so bring a small pit bike/bicycle if you don't want to walk.

Electric is in the garages, which are now $20 for one day and $30 for two days. You can pay at Tech Inspection for the garage.
