    Re: Loudon TD in rain/showers?

Another thing that helps me out big time in the rain is getting my turning done EARLY in the turn.

To do this, I need to brake early and make one good, properly timed, positive steering input... no lazy early turn-ins. I get to my lean angle quickly so that I can get the bike aimed through the corner quickly.

This allows me to minimize my mid-corner steering inputs and concentrate more on throttle control.

I love riding/racing in the rain.
if you do a lot of trackdays youre a fool not to have spare wheels with rains mounted.
you can still ride a 70%+ with a good set of rains (i recommend bridgestones). i can still get a knee down (especially in 9) in the rain.
spend the dough to have an abundance of alone time on the track

yup, i'm pretty sure the race i remember as being my most fun was a complete down pour with a river running through turn 11. i didn't have rain tires and was deffinatly not in contention to place well...but damn it was fun.

if you ever wanted to learn how to powerslide a corner exit a wet track is the place to do it. just remember the throttle is a one way ratchet...and watch that turn 2 apex.

Just a heads up, but latest reports now show only a chance of showers in the afternoon.

Since there are several responses regarding rain tires there's one additional note I'd like to make. If you are running rain tires and the rain stops/track starts to dry up either a) stay on the wet parts of the track or you'll chew up the rains on dry asphalt in no time or b) better yet, pit in and swap them out for your DOT's. This may seem obvious but I think it's still worth mentioning.

Just slightly off topic, but temps are looking low for tomorrow as well.

What's the track's policy on heaters in the garage? I have a small-ish propane heater that might make my day a little more comfortable.

Propane is a no go. No flames in the garages. One of those oil filled electrics might be OK, but I'm not sure.

    Re: Loudon TD in rain/showers?

The last track day I did was a rain day up there. I think it was a LAPS day and it was the kind of rain where if I was in a car I would have pulled over on the highway.... I actually had a blast and like everyone else said, the rain really teaches you a ton. It teaches you to be smooth with the throttle, and smooth with your movements on the bike. If you arent smooth the bike will let you know and you can usually correct it.

I learned more from getting used to the tires sliding around in the rain than I did at either of my dry days. In fact I was the only idiot that stayed out from my group when the deluge started It was nice having the track to myself. If you are on your street bike it might be diff though, I bought a race prep SV650 to use as track only so if I crashed it, it wasnt as big of a loss.

    As they said:
T2 is notoriously slick in the wet
T3 actually has grip but it gets in your head
T4 on exit be easy on the throttle if the rear spins up let it come back under you before making too many adjustments.
T10 usually forms some puddles but isnt that bad
T11 actually was pretty slick during my day there but I think it was mostly people not getting the turning done early as Pete said.
T12 try to get the bike upright before really getting on it, if you spin up the rear treat it like T4

Rains fun if I actually raced I think id have a shot if it rained

This was everyone else pitting and pretty much sums up the rain I was talking about:

I figured as much, but it couldn't hurt to ask.
