I believe if the box is not lettered as commercial, you can do the Garden State Parkway (after doing the roads above).

I avoid the GW bridge at all costs.

Any chance you have room for one more bike? She is willing to pay. Here's the thread:

Most parkways have very low height restrictions. I don't know that one specifically, but it's something to consider before taking any parkway with a large truck.

Good point. I know the GSP isn't bad though... I think under 13 feet you are good, but the OP should confirm of course.

I've taken my motorhome on it before and that was about 12 feet.

    or 95 to 287.

only time I ever had trouble over the GW was on a friday when it took over 3 hours to get from the 91 interchange to the GW.

I don't think it allows trailers either, T.

"Allows" is a funny word. As in, I towed to NJMP via the GSP 1-2x/yr for three years w/o being hassled. ::shrug::

you guys got lucky. a buddy of mine from NYC says he seems people with little trailers pulled over all the time on the parkways. I wouldn't risk it.

I believe the Garden State Parkway just says no commercial vehicles / trailers.

I've been racing and "trackdaying" since 1994... must have trailered past 50 cops over the years sitting on the side of the GSP and never been pulled over.

    YMMV, of course.

I will say the lanes get pretty narrow if you have an 8foot wide trailer (trailer is 7 foot but my wheels are at 8 feet).

Re: best way to get to NJMP from RI

lol, I hear that. I'm right there with ya with that 8 foot wide track!

    According to Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_State_Parkway)
Commercial trucks with a registered weight of over 7,000 pounds (3.18 metric tons) are not allowed to use the northern parts of the Parkway. All trucks must exit at exit 105, just past the Asbury Park Toll Plaza. From Tinton Falls to the southern end of the Parkway at Cape May, trucks are allowed, but must pay additional tolls. Buses are allowed for the entire length of the Parkway.[13] The "truck" ban includes all vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (the vehicle's maximum fully loaded weight including fuel, passengers and cargo) over 7000 pounds, which encompasses dozens of large passenger vehicles, such as the Chevy Suburban, which can weigh in at 8,500 pounds, though in practice police do not ticket such vehicles [14]
    And footnote #14 states
Biederman, Marcia (October 7, 2007). "Motoring; Behind the Beauty of the Parkways Is a Maze of Rules". The New York Times. Retrieved October 17, 2007. "In New Jersey, the Garden State Parkway has different rules depending on where you are. There are no truck restrictions south of exit 105 because trucks need to use the parkway to service the commercial needs of the area. North of the exit, vehicles with gross vehicle weight ratings (including passengers and cargo) more than 7,000 pounds are banned.... He said officers who patrolled the area had presented to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority a list of 70 passenger vehicles that exceed the weight limit, hoping the agency would update the rules. He said most troopers applied the rules mainly to commercial vehicles."
    No mention of trailers.

I think the operative word is COMMERCIAL... at least that's my assumption.

All 50 cops couldn't have been sleeping when I drove by.

I've heard of someone on a 'wing towing a trailer being ticketed on the parkway.

    Righteous? No idea.

    I dunno, they couda been

Either way, I'm probably goin this way again, especially since I probably won't be towing my trailer. Probably gonna end up going myself with the hitch mount carrier unless I find someone that wants to split a ride.

+1 I've taken the GSP every time to NJMP (6-7 times?) and I've never been hassled. My trailer is 8.5' wide and it does get kinda tight for a stretch of about 10-15 miles.

this made me realize something. the parkways I've been told not to take a truck or trailer on are NY parkways. NJ obviously has their own laws and I know nothing about them.

That's the same thing the CT parkway signs say... but it means "no commercial vehicles (or) trailers. However, unless you're speeding AND towing, cops likely won't bother you on the CT parkway

I've done jersey many times and I always go straight through ct on the 15 and then across the GWB to the nh turnpike.

I pull a trailer as well.

Just time it to avoid rush hour around ny and its never been a problem.
