In that case, weather permitting, you'll be +1.

Trackdays are only 2 days per month... that leaves plenty of time for work!

    Dooo eeeit!

I typically knock off around 3 PM anyway. Google shows NHMS an honest 1.5 hours away.

If the weather cooperates, I'll even be on the bike.

i'll be at my first TTD on the 22nd as well. i'd love to drive up the night before rather than spend 2 hrs the morning of on the road. is there a place to pitch a tent? the bed of my SUV doesn't go completely flat and wouldn't be all that comfy i don't think.

Two more questions I thought of today. What is the protocol for rain? I put brand new tires and brakes on my bike today. Do most novice track riders run the street tires or switch to rains?

Most riders use their regular tires in the rain. Only about 10% have rain tires. I know no one likes wet trackdays, but the absolute ideal scenario for learning to ride your bike better is a few sessions of wet track and lots of dry sessions.

I get emails from riders all the time after a wet track day - and then they've ridden on the street in the rain - and they tell me how much more confident they were.

Most riders that don't have experience riding on a wet trackday will way underestimate just how much grip is available. If you get caught on the street in the rain, doing the speed limit should be an absolute breeze... it's far more dangerous to be going under the speed limit and be totally tensed up (like most untrained wet weather riders)

I've learned a lot on damp days. Make sure you have good rain gear and a change of suit liner/clothes for lunch. If you can keep your body comfortable than you can have a lot of fun. It'll teach you to be smooooth and, as Tony said, you'll be amazed how much traction is available.

Thanks guys. I have base gear and good rain gear. Also have a couple rain miles on the street. I am pretty confident in my wet street riding but a rainy track day has me nervous about binning my main squeeze.

and the good thing about most newbies being on street tires is that they are the perfect tire for changing weather conditions. most of us yesterday who run race tires (dry and wet) were playing the "do I swap now and hope it dries out or leave the rains on and hope it gets wetter" game.

Do any of you first time track day riders wear a size 9 boot? I have an older set of Oxstar performance boots that you can have.

In addition to your old exhaust, old FZ fairings, I will take those boots too! (As long as someone else doesn't need them)

I can't even begin to thank you guys for the help and support today. All the TTD staff members I met went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable. The rain spooked me quite a bit, especially being my first time on the track. Riding behind the instructors and CR's really put some of my fears to rest though. You guys were so helpful. Thank you to KB and John for personally helping me along on Monday night getting set up, and Tuesday during the track session. You guys really made the experience a great one for me. Props to the whole TTD crew

this was my 2nd track day, and despite the rain i had a great time. met a bunch of friendly people and got a bit more comfortable in the rain (the one time i wrecked on the street was in the rain, and i've been timid since). thanks to Tony and the rest of the crew for putting together a great day.

Tony truly runs a first class operation... well-organized, structured, and his instructors are fantastic!
It's obvious how much they want to help all of the riders and enjoy doing so.
The rain had minimal drawbacks as far as I was concerned... if nothing else, it probably helped me improve and gain confidence riding in the wet.
