    NYST PB's

We have a Loudon thread, let's get one for NYST. Curious to see what others are running around the Safety Track. We can all agree it's "track day pace" but I still had opportunity to get after it pretty hard in the expert group as density was fairly low.

    Format:
    Bike - Uptown/Downtown - timing device - time

I feel like there's still a couple of seconds to be had here. Key areas for me, pushing back my braking market into 1, better drive out of 18, growing a pair over wheelie hill.

    '05 CBR 600RR - Uptown - QStarz GPS - 1:38.601

Think I'm about 1:41 ish based on the exact science of a gopro haha. Keys for me are about the same, braking later into 1, plus driving harder out if 3/4

    Re: NYST PB's

A thread about lap times at a "track day" track, that probably won't be here in another year, that doesn't have a timing system, where people are using stop watches and guessing?

    Seems legit...

My buddy stood on pit wall and counted seconds until I crossed the line again. He's really good at math, so it must be legit.

    Re: NYST PB's

    I have done:

    KTM 690 SMC
    Uptown: 1:40.2
    Downtown: 1:40.6

    Triumph 675
    Uptown: 1:35.0
    Downtown: ???

Times gathered with Qstarz. There's plenty of time left to be had out there.

Can't. I'm way to busy trying to find time at a non-timed facility to go fuck off.

Plus, its still early and I'm having too much fun shitting up this thread.

GPS laptimers are valid. It's usually within a tenth of the timing system. You do have to watch for anomalies though. Sometimes they hiccup. If you see a lap that is way faster, throw it out.

It's hard to say where the times would land if racing came to NYST, but if I had to guess, I would say that Narbonne could do a 29 on a 600 Uptown.

Lap record now down in the :26 range via Lou, others have done 27's. That said, I'm a lot more interested in what mere mortals are capable of.

I was running in the low 33's last year my one time there. But like was said. Track day timing is.... meh. better to ignore times and work on learning and becoming a better rider.

Really? Where does this info come from? I hadn't heard any of that, and the owner hasn't either apparently?

The lap record is a 1:25.345420, recorded by Jim McConville on an iphone 3S. He was running midtown.

Yeah, I agree with people that there are some people claiming that they're running 1:27's and shit but they won't throw a proper lap timer on their bike.

Most of the guys that are running in the low 30's are using the beam / beacon lap timers. I'm thinking about getting one of those too. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but I've had way to many sessions that felt really fast, only to find out that the qstars didn't record the session.

Not sure I agree with that. Assuming you golf, do you go to the driving range and completely ignore how long / straight your shots are going?

Esp. when I was just starting out, what felt fast wasn't always fast - in fact it was usually the opposite (it felt like I was closer to the edge but it was because I was doing something wrong.) There are some things you can work on without knowing if you're faster or slower, but you can never be sure unless you're tracking how you're doing. I.e. was I pushing the front more that lap/session because I was faster...or because that body position change made things WORSE and not better?

Really? You know this for a fact?

I was running expert class this weekend along with ductard and all the other expert guys. Don't remember an 05 CBR 600 - if you are running 138s, we'd have seen each other quite a bit.

Speed is a product of doing things right. As you learn proper body position, bar imput, brake/throttle control ect you will start to go faster, however you do not need to be going fast to develop these skills. It actually may be better to work on specific things while not at a full pace

Yes, eat healthy, and exercise, drink lots of water, cut down sugar. No one needs doctors, x-rays, anti-biotics, CT scans and all that jazz.

Any other common sense captain obvious tips you are going to throw our way?
