Question What would be your perfect rainy day , track day bike be to run ...

We all have our own preference of what two wheel'd bucking bronco we like to run in the dry right !! ....

So I got to thinking ... If you could own a back up wet weather specific bike ... What would your perfect bike to run in the rain and not get run over by the faster guys in your group ??

    - 2 or 4 stroke ..., super motard .., twin .., or multi cyl ??? You name it .... I want ta see what you would run ..

For me .., I think I'd run a 1000cc 4 stroke twin .. For it's light weight and low end grunt out of the corners ... But Idk .., it's been so long since I've been on the track .., I figured you guys might know more than me !!!

    Thanks in advance !!

Motard. Free to crash, rain=foot out, and super lightweight to pick up after crashing. Motard on race rains is huge fun.

    Anything with rain tires.

I've never ridden a tard, but I like Chip's logic.

whatever you ride, back off the compression clickers, FRONT AND REAR (if you have them) about3 clicks.

There is nothing like a Motard on rain tires in the wet.....(also soften the compression here as well).

Re: What would be your perfect rainy day , track day bike be to run ...

When you say motards ...., are they 450's ..., or the bigger cc ones ??

Then ..., I have heard that these things blow up on regular basis ..., is that true ???

    ----------

So let me throw this out there ...

If it was legal to do this .., would you do it ???

Let's just say that it's raining ...., and either your 600 or 1000 race was coming up .... Would you pull out your motard and run it against 600's or 1000's and be competative ..., or would they walk away from you ??

EX500, with rains. Very fun and impossible to break, just don't try to find the compression adjusters.

Crud, MORE Johnny B's on this forum!

How goes, haven't talked to you in ages. Gotta get together some time and bang bars, bench race, etc. I might have to wander down to Cycles 128 to spectate that MoM round this year or something if you're going.

Anyways, to answer your question no, I had a Bridgestone BT-090 in back, and a Pirelli Supercorsa SC0 (Ultrasoft DOT?) up front when I mucked my hand up. I'm not convinced rains would have saved me in hind sight, I was on the wrong line through 2 and was way too tense on the bars so I was going down one way or another, it was just a matter of time.

As far as the motards question, any dirty bike counts, but the vast majority are 450s. As long as you stay on top of maint, including crank swaps every couple of years, etc they seem to hold up just fine at NHMS.

Personally I would love a 3rd gen EX250 for the wet.

07+ CBR600RR. rain bike has to be the same as the dry bike. my bike is a track day and race bike so if it starts to rain at the races I gotta be able to just hop on rain bike.

Thumbs down Re: What would be your perfect rainy day , track day bike be to run ...

I never ever liked racing in the rain !!!

I know it teaches you about body position , weight transfer , throttle control and not to death grip the bike !!! ....

The only thing I have ever learned about rain racing ...., is that it can be totally unpredictable at times !!!

Although ...., I have to admit .... , the only time I ever had any kind of fun run'n around in the rain ... Was back in the day , was when I ran my 87 Hurricane 600 with Metzler Lazer tires ...

I'm sure it must be heaven run'n rains on a bike now a days !!!! ... I'd like to see what's like some time soon ...

Probably a dumb question, 'cause I never rode a tard. Imagine 1st generation Multistrada without fairings/light, add rearsets and rain tires. Its still 100+ lbs more than a tard, more a standard bike. Would you guess it's close to the "Pope's thingy" or nowhere close?

    A motard.

Or that lightweight 1000cc twin that you were talking about, and a pet liger.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

I managed a 7th place finish in Expert MW GP "Dash for Cash" race 11 on October 6, 2012 in the rain on my SV650 Track Day/Instructor bike. Still got lapped by Scott Greenwood on brand new Rains, but managed to get $50 for circulating around on my well-worn rain tires to get in a good 11 laps on a wet, but drying track. Pretty much any twin, or Motard is easier to ride in the rain. If you get enough practice riding in the rain, a 600cc or 750cc Inline-4 can still go pretty well, but takes a bit more finess than one of the suggested lightweight bikes.

nothing to do with the tires. I'd say the wrong type of gloves. Very light, summer, non armored riding gloves because you did not want to get your good racing gloves to wet.
