    New to Pirelli

    Hi all,
Switching to Pirelli Dragon SuperCorsa Pro SC2 from Michelin street tires. I'll be using tire warmers. (175deg)
    Ducati 999R
    Loudon.
What HOT tire pressures should I start with?
    TIA

    Re: New to Pirelli

32 psi front, 28 psi rear. These are HOT pressures taken RIGHT OFF the track!!!! Off the warmers you can try 32 front and 26-27 rear.

Really, expecting the tire to be warmer from the track than off the warmers? Interesting.

Actually, yes, it does. I would have figured the warmers would get the tire to just over the operating temp of a HAMMERED tire, and most of us running them wouldn't be able to push them hard enough to exceed those temps, without screwing up the pressures, etc.

Boston Moto takes good care of their riders. You'll see once you buy that tard and get some pirellis for it.

Take a look to see the line of riders coming directly off the track after practice one & two and rolling right to the BoMo trailer to get their pressures set by us. Consistently we see tire pressures that have bumped up 2-3 psi too high in the rear and 1-2psi in the front. (Sometimes worse!)

    Why?

There are so many variables when you take the warmers off your tires, drop the bike off the stand and take the track. (Is it 60 degrees out? ok Is it cloudy? Is it sunny? Did it rain overnight? - The list goes on and on... Its never a simple equation...) All these variables effect how much gain you get when you bring the tires up to operating temp. It is almost impossible to set your pressure off the warmer let alone setting your pressure cold and get it right consistently!

Your Hot off the track temperature is all that matters and eliminates all these variables. Take it off the track and it will get you as close as possible to the optimal pressures. If you can eliminate tire pressure as an on track variable, you can focus on everything else.

OK pressures, I understand wanting to be at the optimum temp for traction, performance etc. Do you guys also note starting pressure? Wont a starting pressure compared to ending pressure tell you if you are working one end harder than the other, sliding a tire, spinning the back? A raise in pressure is a direct link to temp. Another question to you temp the tires when you come in?

Yes, we encourage all our riders to note their pressures off the warmers as well, and then off the track. This will help them get a feel for their "Gain" the amount of pressure increase you get once you're on track and pushing the tires. On some bikes and for some riders (also depending on weather) you will actually LOSE up to a pound in the front. The rear almost always sees a gain. But again, you have to note this every day at different times of the day, as it's never the same due to weather, ambient temp, track temp, how much mojo you have that day, etc.

Yep, and if you keep a log, you'll know on mild days you typically see ~2 psi gain, on hot days you get a ~3 psi gain, etc... and you'll be able to dial it in.

OK what about CIII's for track days. What pressures do you recommend for them?

    Re: New to Pirelli

Thanks Denno. That is what I ran for the Fishtail days in the rain, just double checking. Just a side note, the CIII's are not confidence inspiring in the rain. Great in the dry though!

OK, thanks BoMo guys for the useful info.
    I'll try- Off Warmers- F-31, R-27
    Off Track- F-32, R-28
AND, I do check tire TEMP, also (directly off track, in pit lane...I have a Pit Tootsie with a infra-red gun), but with the Michelins I never knew what to do with the info!!
Any help here? Temps R,Center, Left??
    TIA.
