LOL you might make more on the "I heart STDs" shirts than the entries themselves

    Or...

    -"Got STDs?"

    -"coed naked STDs"

    -"ask me about STDs"

    -"I paid for my STD"

    -"10 STDs and counting!"

-"I got my STD at Loudon!"

-"give an STD to your favorite rider"

FWIW, there are also a lot of one-or-two-a-year track day attendees (like myself) out there. Not everyone can afford to miss 4+ days of work, lose out on that much family time, spend $250+/day more than once or twice a year. These people are people you want in your corner. I have done days with Tony and days with LAPS (who could beat that price?). I don't go often, but I am a cheerleader for the org's I find value in (and I find value in them all for different reasons - yes, Oxx, even BOMO - and will recommend different ones to certain people over others). If the price was right and the value was there, I would consider trying one of your days, Sam, but a lot of the regulars (of any org) won't go to a new guy until he has some people they trust recommending him. And that person doesn't have to be (and probably shouldn't be) someone who has "drank the kool-aid" for any one org.

I think the faster you put something together, the more customers you'll have. I think you loose more and more potential clients the longer you wait. Having a published schedule up front adds credibility. Credibility makes people more open to cracking their wallets or at least ready to plan to do days with your org.

Your point re: "some just want to ride NHMS" is extremely valid. I know a BUNCH of riders that are in that boat. Unfortunately, I wonder if there are enough to fill your noob sessions.

Not to mention the bumper stickers:

    -"I brake for STDs"

    -"STDaholic on board"

-"a bad STD is better than a good day at work"

    -"HONK if you love STDs"

-"If you are close enough to read this sticker, you need an STD"

I agree with the Butcher as well…only 30 people have even voted on this forum…17 said the would ride. Now of that 17 say 50% (generous) actually commit and pay up, you have 9 paying riders (I'm giving you the half).

And I don't care what people's opinions are about business's 'losing their shirt. If you commit the funds to rent the track and pay all the other overhead costs; then do not bring in enough riders to break even, you're losing money. Now factor in the time you spend organizing/preparing/working. How much is your time worth an hour? Add that in. If you lose 2K on your first day + 3 days of time you spent preparing, you 'lost your shirt.' Nobody with any intelligence gets into a business to simply break even, or make a "little" money. Businesses operate for profit, the more the better.

Not pointed at you Sam…I'm more just talking now for the sake of continuing the discussion.

Preface: I know shit about business and I suspect I am about to show it.

I wonder if there is a not-for-profit club model out there that could work. Everyone that wants to attend pays in to some sort of bond or endowment sort of thing. Those funds are used as seeds to secure the track time, pay EMTs, expenses, even a nominal fee to organizers (who get to participate.. in it for the love, not the money, right?). The balance is then divided back amongst participants. The more in, the cheaper the day gets. The fewer in, the more track time but the more it costs.

You pretty much described a track day org.

But no, seriously. The "track day" membership is a good example of that. You pay a certain amount in and if you do more days, then it's cheaper for you, less days and it costs more.

I second this...and Tony said the same thing a couple of posts ago. I own my business as well and you cant just do it for the brake even point. Its harda s it is when you go for the make millions point, never mind just doing it.

I personally would love to have done something with the mentality of just helping people out, but in the world we are in, it is virtually impossible, even if you make a little out of it, youre still not on the winning side of your bank account

...as ive said it before, anything i can help with sam let me know, I'll gladly help if needed in any occurrences

No I didn't. With all of the orgs that I currently know of one individual or a small group fronts all of the seed money and then collects any profit or suffers any loss. Participants' risk (and benefit) is fixed.

What I was suggesting is a private club arrangement where the risks are shared equally amongst ALL participants. I admit it is very fairy-tale-esque and likely hard to protect against being abused.

    But it was a thought.

There are non-profit track day clubs.

It's an awesome model and the two groups I've ridden with are great.

It's a huge huge amount of work for the organizer and just like a for profit biz he takes shit from everyone.

My comment about "do it for the love of it" meant that even if he fills his first 2 days in 2014, he will have earned about $0.50 an hour for the time he has into it.

There is no business model for making money on trackdays that involves less than 10 trackday events.

If Sam is not doing this for the love of it, he should step away right now.

All of you track day orgs should set up a referral program... save money on your trackday if you bring someone who has never been to the track before.

Me personally i don't care for memberships, never have. I would try a day or two with you Sam. Problem i have is where do guys like me fit in? I don't race but i also don't need "follow the leader" for 3 hours. Don't mind lead around for the first session but after that i want to go out and turn laps with some supervision as needed. I do the majority of my days with Fishtail and quite honestly will continue to. Having another org at NH to do days with is good for me. The cost factor (for me) is not a reason for who i choose. I'm more interested in quality time.

Re: Poll: New track day NHMS

I've ridden with TTD, Bomo and have done the Seacoast days. I'm not necessarily "brand loyal", I just want some quality track time. TTD and Bomo both put on good days, and I'm pretty bummed that there won't be as many NHMS days because I live less than an hour from the track. I know my work schedule a full year ahead of time, and unfortunately I'm scheduled to work every single CT track day that's posted on the TTD site. I'm hoping to call out sick...i mean...take a personal day, in order to attend at least one weekend in CT, but I still plan on riding NHMS as much as possible. I've done 2 seasons now, and have done 5 or 6 each season. I plan on doing the same this upcoming year if there are people running days. So bottom line is, if you, or another organization comes along and offers a track day at NHMS, I'm in for at least 3 or 4 days during the season.

Re: Poll: New track day NHMS

I just caught this thread because Marcelo bumped it. If I was just starting out and the OP I would do one or two days the first year at a slightly lower price if possible than the big track days. Offering basically free track time to control riders and corner workers and intermediate / advanced only with not much in the way of classroom besides a morning riders meeting and maybe 1 or 2 meetings to talk about the track a little bit after the first 1 or 2 sessions. The first session would be follow the leader for the first few laps to get people warmed up and show people who haven't ridden THIS track the line. Reducing materials and overhead(actually paying instructors) will keep costs down and help provide more track time to people looking for more track time. If successful at this years track days and get more interest and get a better idea of the budget you can expand to add more time and beginner groups.

This is essentially the model that TPM track days uses and they are a bit cheaper($50 member $170/day) if you go to more than 2 or 3 days with them. They do offer a beginner group, but even that instruction is not as good as TTD and Fishtail. But for an experienced rider it's more track time at a lower price. If you've gone to a few track days at the same place it gets redundant. It's pretty much all the same advice unless you're get one on one instruction.
