    Price of trackdays

So we have 5 tracks in our area now, aren't trackdays supposed to be getting cheaper?

the cost of renting the tracks isnt getting cheaper.
why would the track day vendors decrease their small profit margin?

Sure... if you don't want the TD providers to have a sustainable business model.

There's a reason most of them stopped going to NYST.

There are lots of reasons they stopped going to nyst.
I yearn for a good deal like everyone else, but there's a fine line between frugal and cheap. Being a td customer isn't for either at the end of the day. If you're going to be a long term track junky, you've gotta pay your dues with memberships and whatnot to continue to do so "affordably".

I guess how Sam is thinking is that with so many tracks around tracks should be competing with each other offering cheaper rental costs which would drive cost of TDs down.

1 - The laws of supply and demand don't work overnight.

2 - The way in which the TD market & pricing structures work, it's WAY more complicated than just "There are more tracks, prices should go down". That's WAY oversimplifying the situation.

It's really just the one. They undercut their outside vendors.

If bikes aren't the main source of income for a track then they will have little incentive to compete on pricing.

Unfortunately most can't afford the time off from work to take advantage of those memberships, which leaves the riders that can only afford 4-5 days a year, paying the premium...which then only allows same rider to only afford 3-4 days vs 4-5. I've said it before, ill say it again, the price of tracktime imho has capped out for most ....which is sorta evident by the low attendance at most orgs this season.

Are the tracks booking every single day during the season?

I was also thinking of their instability and distance, amongst other things.

That might play into it a LITTLE bit, but by far, it's mostly what Paul said.

Not all cheap tracktime is good. I did a day in CA that was cheap, but we didn't get rolling till 11, then they broke for lunch and we got the privelege of watching the instructors rip on an empty track.

When you said Cali I was afraid they were going to break for lunch and let the Kardashians on the track.

COTA's 485 per day. Harris Hill (makes Loudon look smooth as glass) is member only, but if you know people you can sign up for 130 bucks a day, open sessions.

What do the tracks around here charge for rentals? Probably depends on which organization and their relationship is with that track?

I think this has been a "silly season" for trackdays... and market corrections will be made moving forward.

What was a fairly stagnant situation for many years has undergone many changes in a relatively short period.

    Re: Price of trackdays

Kumpy was telling me how cheap tracks are in Nevada too. I'm definitely not blaming the td orgs and understand they need to make money. Just thinking prices are getting more expensive and there are more tracks to choose from. Especially with 4 out of the 5 in this area only doing trackdays and not racing. At least nhms can tell everyone to take it or leave it because they make there money on nascar, but what about the others?

    Re: Price of trackdays

I don't think its fair to compare trackday prices with any tracks (Texas, Nevada, Florida, Arizona) that can run year round, while the ones up here have to make their annual income in 7 months
