Quick question about buying a track bike

When I gave my girlfriend a tour of my house we came to a room behind the garage which was being used as a tv lounge. She took one look at that room and said "We could fill this room with motorcycles". She's now my wife! After our first track day she has been on ebay and Craigslist searching for a pair of track bikes. We cannot buy anything right now and she knows it. I'm dying to grab a few of the sv 650's that are available right now.

Between the house, my El Camino project and uh.. being a husband.. I don't think I can swing a $2k+ track bike. I want to get more time on the track and I don't think my VFR is going to cut it.

What should I do? It's not the track day costs or on-going maintenance etc. that's a problem, but just really finding the cash to purchase the bike with.

I suppose I could always auction off my virginity..

Unfortunately, $2-3k seems to be the minimum cost of doing this particular business. I can't stress enough, Chip's 650 is is a damned good value for the parts and spares that come with it. I practically stole my track bike and still managed spend more money than that setting it up with rain wheels, spares, etc. And my spares/goodie box isn't even as deep as his. I'm running fast and loose there.

Turn-key. EFI. Running and setup.

If you're serious about doing a lot of track time, running a dedicated track bike is a no-brainer. One crash and it pays for itself vs repairing a street bike and taking the depreciation hit.

I agree that your VFR is not a very good track choice. For track days it is fine. But I think you're a little crazy if you actually try to race it. (I now own a 91 VFR 750.)

Deals are out there. My buddy bought a 2003 r6 for $2300, this time of year track bikes become scarce. But as Colin said that Kawasaki is a deal.

Track bikes will bring in more bitches than an el camino.

Unless you're looking for a specific kind of lady that digs an el camino. Like tawny kittain (sp?), or something.

I run Reg shift on my SV the only place where it really becomes a bit of an issue is at the apex of 7 when I need to upshift and I have gotten around that by just holding the throttle a bit longer and making the shift as I toss it over for 8.

you can fix this by going through 6 faster and carrying a taller gear so the upshift isnt needed

It's also in Illinois. Shipping or traveling to get it will cost. Could use that money on the bike instead.
