    Re: Rear video camera mount?

Here's the setup I've used for testing. It's not rigid or secure enough for track use or even road use, but shows the basic layout.

We'll work on a plastic package to hold everything next, and get a smaller battery.

That's pretty cool? Could it handle the weight of a gopro?

    Re: Rear video camera mount?

Yes, as that's one of the cameras regularly used in RC aircraft. But they are usually supported with a cradle and bearing on the other end.

By using a tiny camera, there's a lot less mass and locating it is easier as it could be cantilevered from the servo face.

There is a 99 cent gyrocam app for iPhone but haven't seen one for Android phones yet.

Garandman, have you experimented with interesting places to mount the $40 fleabay camera on the 'strom? I attached it to the dash above the instruments and am unhappy with it. The FOV of the lens on that thing is not wide enough to pull that off.

Is that the dash? Doesn't look like you have a windshield in front of it. Or maybe my windshield is just 10000x dirtier and more scratched up.

Maybe I can try between the forks. Or maybe the underside of the front cowl.

Tried putting it on the side cases. My givi E21's aren't wide enough to pull that off.

I've seen the contour mounted on the front fork, off to the side. That was cool, but I think the FOV on the contour and gopro is a lot wider.

Would be nice to see some of the bike in the frame as a reference.

Amazing how awful these things make the 'strom exhaust sound...

I've been toying with taping it to the helmet too.

The ripples on your video are caused by the camera's rolling shutter. Basically, the camera exposes the top and bottom parts of the image at different times and the vibration makes the camera point in different directions for different parts of each frame. You can probably get rid of a lot of this by mounting your camera on a sheet of polyurethane elastomer damping material, such as Sorbothane. Here's a link:

You would want to use the extra soft durometer polyurethane types.

    Nice.

There's a guy on SVrider that wants to buy one - I've referred him to you.

    Re: Rear video camera mount?

My 2nd test of the gyro cam system. Saturday mornings first practice at round 6 of the LRRS series at NHMS.. this is shot from my tail. It's bouncy I ran the video through stabilization but that did not accomplish much. this is a draw back to a hard mounted camera to a NON REALLY HARD mounted location.... not the gyro.

while this setup works, I am going to shelve the electronics for it till the winter. I may try and get another one of these simple setups available so I can lend one out. But I had a good off this past weekend and that's going to occupy my spare $$ and time.... I was working on downsizing the package, and making mounting options, which I will continue to play with, along with battery charging connections and on/off switch. I'll be at the Sept TTD's I'd be glad to let someone try it out for a session if they like..

    Looks like the gyro/servo works.

I tried a "butt cam" also. Apparently I need a wider-angle lens, or less butt....

There are all kinds of anti-vibration mounts for RC aircraft camera mounts. I just bought some sorbothene to try.

Sketched up a plastic housing in SolidWorks yesterday and printed it out on our Dimension 3D printer. We sell the stuff, but almost never get to use it "for real" so this was a lot of fun for me.

Tried to duplicate the bolt pattern on my tank so I can bolt it down more securely.

    NICE!

my demo box is a bit more..... boxy.... but the setup survived my T3 head on just fine! you can see it in the pic... link below..

    http://ontrackmediallc.zenfolio.com/...c1b4#h2f38b592

I'm working on compacting the packaging with on/off switch, charging port and creating some out of box mount points. I wish I was better at solidworks.... the RP machine here is waiting for me.....

and Gman your way may be the way I go.. offering a "kit" well see if I can get it together..

I came across this while I was researching 3d wax printers.
I do lost wax casting and want to make high tolerance pieces but have yet to find a 3d wax printer that I can afford.

Anyways I thought you might be interested in this.

SolidScape dominates that market but they aren't cheap. Stratasys recently acquired them but we don't know if that means new models or repricing - that would take 1-2 years, I'd guess.

Our customers make molds out of plastic, paint and polish them, then cast the wax patterns. SolidWorks and most other solid modelers these days can make derivative parts with shrink compensation and quickly create mold cavities.

Here's the latest config. Just ordered a GoPro to build a mount for that as that seems to be what most people have. But I'm going to abandon the RAM mount - it vibrates too much.

    Re: Rear video camera mount?

GoPro seems to have market share so I started working on a bolt-in mount for the Hero to try out at the TTD next Tuesday.

This was a test buck to make sure I had the mounts right. I'm going to work on an arm now that is stiffer and easier to safety wire.

    Re: Rear video camera mount?

I tried the GoPro and the mount vibrated too much over bumps to have good video. The bracket wasn't stiff enough.

So I called in reinforcements from one of our engineering staff and a copy of SolidWorks Simulation. He added ribs to reduce the deflection and help damp out any vibration.

This shows the before-and-after design. The new design deflects 1/3rd as much while using less material! Hope to test tomorrow for track day Tuesday!
