I can do 21s on my sv, but probably wouldn't do better than high 20s on my pretty 749.

You're not using all the power....

But seriously, lets get some 1-on-1 time next season and we'll get you sorted. Also it may be time to try some different setups. The 9's are a different beast to the 748 entirely.

PS, if you wanna trade for a nice, beaten up 748... just let me know.....

    I started racing on a 750.

When I went down to a 600, I dropped 5 seconds the first weekend.

This was at Loudon... obviously a more open track may not see this happen.

Stop Following Tony's lines!!! I was stuck behind you guys for 2 sessions and then Tony took a really wide line in T1, you followed and I just stuck to the line for the easy get around.

I always just have more confidence on my race bike than a street bike. Between what he said about a track bike, and even things like tires (even though street tires are more capable than I am), still just that nagging feeling in my brain.

Loudon rewards MW more then HW bikes due to its setup. You really dont have the open corners or long straights to let the bigger bike stretch its legs and use the extra hp.

throttle control on a big bike is ridiculously hard to learn... a smaller bike you can wring the piss out of it. I still can't wrap my head around how the UL guys do it at Loudon.

It's pretty simple Ryan. The throttle is a lightswitch...wfo, or closed.

Steve, that thing is a piece of art. I'd be tiptoeing around on it too.

HP is the enemy of entry speed. You feel fast and get lazy=slow laptimes.

Come on Steve, I can turn 24's on my Zuma! Seriously, it's the pretty bike thing, take one of my ugly bikes like the EX500 for a couple sessions, when you don't care about throwing it away as much you will go faster.

Thanks Gino, yeah, I know...but I didn't follow Tony all day. I did go faster when I rode alone.

I've thrown the 9 a few times already, so I don't think that's the prob.....but the throttle control thing does make sense!

Gino, Steve told me the wide line was faster, I was just blocking his pass attempts so he wouldn't win!

Re: Slower lap times with bigger bike?

I've seen this more times than I can count, even with really good riders. For example, Brett Guyer, who is very talented, ran times on his 115 HP Air Cooled Ducati that are comparable to what he runs on his 160 Aprilia RSV4 on a consistent basis....and he knows how to ride.

The average guy on a motard bike gets to the 1:23 barrier (the Novice bump up) as fast than the average guy on a 600. That's 50HP versus 115HP. My son did it in 3 weekends, and he literally rides a motorcycle (any type) 4-5times a year. Put him on my 848, he'd be lucky to break 1:33.

Small bikes teach you how to RACE, big bikes are often a battle just to keep from scaring yourself. You look at lots of experts (me, Scotty G, Jeff, Shane, Brett Guyer) who ride big bikes now....we all started on little bikes. The challenge is once you learn the feel of high corner speed, to translate it to the bigger bike. If you can do that...you're on your way.

Re: Slower lap times with bigger bike?

80hp beatup sv: best lap time 1:18s
134hp Ducati 848 pretty pretty shiny: best lap time 1:22ish

Simply put my racebike is better set up for track use than my 848. I feel more confident on the SV and a part of that is the knowledge that if I bin it it wont cost me 4k at a minimum to put it back together :-p
