Yeah, being a part of it certainly makes things more efficient, but the feeling you get from the smoothness was eye opening.
If nothing else, it REALLY makes me appreciate how lazily you can rip a motard in nh.

Hey guys I am really hoping to get out on this track in 2014. This will be my first track day so I have multiple questions. I will call Tony and talk to him when I am ready to pay for my days (and possibly my wifes). I hope to see most of you on the track but I will be in a lower class (atleast for my first day)but still hope to see you all there. I would have done this years ago if I did not have to trailor my bike all the way to NH.

Sounds good - we'll take good care of you both.

Spend some time on the TTD site as it answers just about every question you will likely have. And if it's not answered there, peeps on this forum probably have the answer.

Of course, if you just prefer to chat with me... I'm happy to oblige.

Having multiple tracks to ride on is a great way to develop your skills. Back when gas was cheap and people were more easily able to travel, we had Loudon and Bridgehampton. From a layout standpoint, you could not have asked for two tracks with a bigger contrast. Loudon taught you how to brake and go fast through the technical stuff, and Bridgehampton taught you how to roll through some really fast sweepers and blind corners. With the combination of the two, riders from the Northeast developed a really well rounded skill set. Our riders would go to a place like the Daytona ROC and do really well.

The more quality race tracks that are close to home, the better. Loudon has a lot of character, and even if those bumps get smoothed out with a repave in the coming years (which is a definite possibility) the character of that track really gives the opportunity to develop a powerful skill set. However, it's amazing what hitting another course for a race or track day can do to open your eyes and cause you to re-evaluate what you were doing before.

It's a good time to be a track rider in New England right now - the future looks bright.

Couldn't agree more. I'm pumped to race on new tracks. I'd love it if the future brought LRRS to one of these new venues.

It would be awesome if the CT track (and maybe the MA track) were both suitable for bike racing.

A multi-track series would be fantastic for the racers.

Utopia would be achieved if the NH track also implemented it's changes (revised back section, revised Turn 3/10 area, and a single pavement pour on the road course so grip would be consistent - especially in the wet)

Straying way off topic here. But really, is there a snowballs' chance in hell of that ever happening? Never mind the costs of the pavement, would NASCAR ever go for that? NASCAR brings the people, pays the bills at NHMS. NASCAR is incredibly uptight about changes to their racing surfaces, aren't they?

It seems to me that NHMS will always be a NASCAR facility with a road corse "out back". Am I off base?

This is what puzzles me about Thompson. It seems like a stock-car oval with a road-course added on. Same disease, different location. Still gonna have transitions, still gonna do whatever keeps the stock-car guys happy first, then keep the road-course in shape if there's budget left.

I think I have this all wrong based on how everyone else is reacting. Tony investing as heavily in running TTDs there is sure a sign. But jeez, it all seems so premature. The place isn't even finished yet. How do we know it won't suck?

And I'm still not psyched about the noon to whatever schedule for Sundays. I'd rather burn a day off from work.

Jeezus, I'm a real downer. Who invited this schmuck to post?

While it is true we can't change the nascar track, if the whole road course was made of the same stuff... Without patches... That would be nice.

As for Thompson, the Oval plays a very small part, and they are designing the roadcourse to meet up with the Oval smoothly.

Re: stopped by Thompson to see the progress today

NASCAR does pay the bills - no doubt about that, but these guys pay attention to making everything work. The changes Tony referenced have all been discussed, and there are other economic factors in play that make it potentially make sense from a dollars and cents standpoint (for instance, designing a new section so that NHMS saves a ton of labor when doing the road course/oval changeover). There are definitely a group of people at the track who care about all the groups outside of NASCAR.

Thompson is doing the road course because they realized that their oval was not enough to get them where they wanted to be by itself With that being the case, I'm sure that the road course will get plenty of attention.

    Think positive my friend.....
