$225 includes 8 sessions, 20 minutes each (barring crashes & clean-up), new rider orientation, classroom instruction, on track instruction, garage space (NJMP it's another 10 bucks) and the ability to go as fast as your cajones allow.

On average, people get around 80-120 miles of riding in... so about 2 bucks a mile. That ain't bad. Show me another hobby that gets you an equivilant all-day rush for cheaper.

I've been riding on the track since 2004... I feel sick every time I think about how much money I've spent, but then I think about how much fun I've had, what I've experienced, the friends I've made, the memories I have.... worth every penny.

To add to what Pete said, my uncle came with me for the first time at the track last tuesday. He said he's never seen me smile like that before. As soon as we go under the tunnel i can't help but smile

It's just not the same. If you are serious about your riding and looking to improve it the track is one of the few places where you can really start to feel what a bike behaves at its limits. I'm sure living in Newport riding an R1 and driving an Audi TT a mere $250 for a full day of fun is easy enough to afford.
I was just talking to a Duc guy who was going to skip the trackday and race round the back roads. Oh yeah termis but no helmet. Wonder if he skipped trackday due to that crazy must wear a helmet rule.

Probably didn't want to get showed up by an EX500.

Eh he probably doesn't even think an EX can be ridden on the track. Just guessing by the way he dismissed the new 636 and my lowly CBR.

    dump the R1

    buy a dirtbike

go to crowhill to ride a track, or just plate it and go to franklin or freetown state forest and pay no gate/trackday fees

fellow drivers? none! low cost for riding? done!

I moved to CA and I have an XR100R that will be used for mini supermoto days...it's under an hour from home and about $45 for a trackday

You bought a bike that will do 0-100mph in five and a half seconds to diddly bop around on back roads?

It's the diddly bop thing that gets him.
Being a military guy, if he said he was snooping and pooping it'd have been fine, diddly bopping, no effing way.

You kinda hit the nail on the head. I am kinda disappointed in that I was hoping that the OP would inquire as to where he can take his batpod for a ride. What ever happened to that secret Wayne industries trainning facility?

If the OP checks back in... how about cornerworking one day and then getting your trackday (at least with Tony's TD) at a 50% discount the following day?

    ....couple thoughts...

There is a possible racetrack getting built in Thompson, CT in the next year- considerably closer to Loudon for you

Once you get hooked (and you will), you'll have no problem driving 3 hours to NHMS or 5 hours to NJMP a time or two a year to ride different venues. We all do this, at considerable time and expense, for one reason....IT'S WORTH IT!

last thought, you can ride with us at Penguin for 5 days for $200/day....and other groups have deals as well.

    Re: superBike tracks near Newport,RI

A day at the track is going to be MUCH cheaper than any speeding tickets or reckless driving charges and various fines and jacked up insurance rates you're going to face from riding quickly on your "back roads". Trust me, I've been there enough this summer and I'm done riding like I'm on the race track on the street. Each of my two speeding tickets could have paid for two track days, easily, just for the initial fine. Now I'm just waiting for my insurance rates to rise, which is really going to drive the point I'm trying to make home for the next few years. All because I thought I could be boy racer on the back roads and I said "the track IS expensive". It's not, compared to the alternative. You will get caught.

I've never been to a track day yet, but I can guarantee it's going to be a lot more fun not having to worry about unexpected conditions and hefty fines or arrest from the government. I'm looking forward to it very much next year.

Does Lime Rock do a track day for motorcycles? I've heard nothing relating Lime Rock to motorcycles. If they don't, why not?

Any chance you can elaborate? Even just a bit? That would be fantastic for many of us!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But I believe they used to run motorcycles at limerock. But, safety is a growing concern and I don't think they have the runoff or airbags to be considered safe for motorcycle riding anymore.

Dude seriously? $200 is nothing for what you get. Back roads are nothing like a track, and once you experience the track you will realize why it's so worth it. Find me a hobby that involves something with a motor that only costs $200 day. R1s and the like are no fun on streets because you can never use them to their full potential, and once you get pulled over, your insurance rates and tickets will cost way more than the cost of multiple track days.

Also the peace of mind in having a controlled area is priceless. No random potholes, no oil spills, no idiot drivers. I even dragged my gf to the last trackday of the year and even she said she realizes now how much safer the track is than the street.

    Re: superBike tracks near Newport,RI

So go live in Cali and pay out the ass for everything else.

A full day of riding on a race track and EVERYTHING else that comes along with it, to a LOT of us, is easily worth the price of admission. The fact that you're scoffing at it without ever having been to a race track tells me you're writing it off prematurely. If you think you can go ride back roads & get a similar experience to what we get out of riding on the track then have fun paying local governments and insurance companies.... and hopefully not hospitals.

Christmanukkah is comin soon. Maybe ask Santa/Hanukkah Harry?

    Dear Christian my little bat-troll,

I ride all of the trackdays here in New England, even when it's snowing! I so wish you would join us.

    Sincerely,

    AnneHathaway
    ==================

But seriously CB, starting off your participation in a regional forum by telling everyone that the part of the country they live in sucks is probably not the very best way to make new friends. Trust me, I'm expert at not making new friends. And using the slogan on your A&F t-shirt as validation is probably not going to help here.

You may have noticed a mix of wise ass remarks like mine and good old fashioned honest advice from others trying to help you out. If you think you'll win a flame war with these folks, I strongly suggest reading a little thread about scratched rims. Relax, take a breath, and get to know NESR a bit. Before long you'll probably discover that it's a pretty cool group. Except me, I'm a dumbass.

Probably in Cali?? Is this thread for real? Okay so rent a trailer and take your bike to Cali, let us know how much that costs. You ask us a question, and now you say we're fucking nuts?

Honest question, how much do you think a track day should cost? How much would you be willing to pay? $20? $50? $100? You understand you're taking a national racetrack, renting it out exclusively to a group of people for an entire day, or even two days, providing ambulatory care should the worst happen, security, garage space and insurance, AND you're free to ride as hard and as fast as YOU want to. On top of that, you get instructors to guide you, classroom sessions, and you get to meet some awesome people who will also help you spin wrenches and answer questions.

There is no other place you can push your R1 than on a race track without getting pulled over, or worse. When I was doing my flight training, I was paying $150 per HOUR to fly. I'll happily pay $200/day to push my 636 as hard as I want without fear of other motorists AND learning new skills. Again, find me a hobby with a motor that costs less than $200.
