    SV650 as a track bike?

I've heard many times that a sv650 is a great choice for a track bike.

So my question is this... is it still a good choice for a ~210 lb. (w/ gear) weight guy? Would a sv1000 be a better choice?

Is there any ideal bike size to rider weight ratio?

    Any input would be appreciated.

An SV650 makes a good machine, even if you don't match the purported ideals as listed for your BMI... Ask Rick Ducette if he feels the SV650 holds him back any. : )

It can easily be sprung to handle a rider your size. Stick to the 650... Great bike...

    sv650? on the track? Preposterous!

Anyone know how much multi-championship winner Rick Doucette weighs? he's gotta be 225 easy.

This new guy did bring up a question that has been on my mind for a little while now. Seems like everyone and their mother races a SV650 but I can't ever remember hearing someone racing a SV1000. Is it just simply because the class it would be in would be too much for the bike?

I've seen a few race-ready SV1000's on the WERA and SV boards.

Pete might be able to answer whether the 650 has more classes it can run in??

Re: SV650 as a track bike?

The 1k is popular in the MotoST series & maybe some WERA classes, but that's about it as far as I know.

The 650 is the SV for CCS/LRRS. You can run it in way more classes than the 1k.

I assume the SV1000 would be in the same classes as the rest of the big twins. RC51s, TLR's, Aprilias, Ducatis, etc etc etc... Not the best platform for racing. The RC's and the TL's can't compete w/ the Ducs & the Prillers, but even those would probably take the SV1K.

At least, that's my uneducated guess

    Pretty Good Guess

The SV1000 Is a Streetbike Its fairely detuned Compaired to A 999/998/ RC51. Its also in The same class as a GSXR750. It takes to Much to Keep it even remotely competitive. It is down on Power to a Late model 600 even.

Even for a trackbike you will find better aftermarket and local support With a 650. even big guys win on them

Re: SV650 as a track bike?

it's more of a concern that the SV will be considered Ultralight, not Production Twins... and that's more for CCS than LRRS.

The EX500 class at Loudon shouldn't be in any danger.

youll be fine. i RACED a stock suspension SV and i weigh more than you.

    225!?...pete im 240

my 1K makes about the same HP as my g/f 01 750...about 115. so yeah...its down compared to other twins.

    yes.
650 has conventional forks (39mm? im guessing here)with no adjustment until 02 when they got preload adjusters and the rear shock only has preload also.
the 1k also has conventional forks but way beefier (43mm? again..guessing) and with cartrige internals and all the adjustments (preload, damping, rebound) the same is true for the rear...it may even be a piggyback res. but im not sure. my bikes not here
