LW 120/160 Pirelli Diablo Superbike slicks, according to MTAG: 31F, 28R
I'm not positive but I think the 2012 US GPA/Ntecs are still the same pressures as the older ones. and US and UK were the same 33/23 front/rear. I usually just went with 32-33/21-23. lower in the rear when the tire gets more worn or if its cold like the first weekend.
bump...
anyone know the pressures for the new pilot 3's?
Looked up my tires(bridgestone s20). The manufacturer recommends:
Bridgestone s20: Cold-32F/30R
Hot-34F/34R
For the track. Street is 36F/42R. I noticed the bike has much better turn in when I have these street settings on my tires. When I got them back from the installer they were 32F/36R and felt a lot less easy to drop into corners.
anyone have any ideas on the pilot 3's?
I was just thinking that myself. Someone (Garandman?) gave me some quality advice last July .. I have, of course, forgotten by now.
Seems to me high 20's cold, aiming for low 30's fresh off the track.. does that seem reasonable to anyone?
anyone ever come across the pressures for the pilot 3's?
Slightly off topic, but is there a michelin dealer at the track? I was told their rains are the best and it's looking wet next weekend. Is this something I would have to pre-order?
Pirelli are great, but they seem to be $100 per set more than the other brands. I'm open to suggestions though, for rains and DOT's for next weekend.
Well for what it's worth, I walked away from everyone on those Pirelli rains last weekend. Felt pretty good to gap out like that.
Woulda done it a second time on Sunday if I didn't gamble & go w/ a DOT rear.
Amortize that 100 bucks extra over the next 4-5 years if you take good care of them and the price difference is a moot point.
Yeah, but $100 extra on your first race weekend can mean something. I'm still 50/50 on even going on a rainy weekend.
I'll loan you my (very used) rains... yeah.. I have rains now. Who the hell let that happen eh?
Wait.. you have a 2nd gen. May no workie.
Edit: I'd loan you the bare tires if it helps. Both tires are currently unmounted.
Thanks bub! I appreciate the offer but I need to get some of my own if I wanna do this racing thing. I'd be open to buy a lightly used set if someone has one for sale though.
Mine are more like "heavily" used.
But if it comes to it, drop me a PM and I'll lash 'em to the 'strom and bring them up.
Although I plan to mount them up this weekend as an offering for the gods for Monday.
I'd be shocked if the Pirelli's are $100 more than any of the competitors! Did you actually compare the prices on www.gomtag.com?
Sorry but back to the topic, I am going to ask MTAG on Sunday what they recommend for pressures on my Rosso Corsa's when I have them mounted. After some research there seems to be a lot of responses for " it depends". But the general consensus is around 30 front and 28 rear cold.
And I agree with Tony, after looking at prices on Wednesday, I don't think $100 sounds right but he would know better.
Hush you, no discussing the weather beforehand!
That said, there are 4 dealers on site on race weekends, Dunlop and Michelin in the north garages, Bridgestone by the media center with Street and Comp and Pirelli in the center garages on the other side of the RSP collective.
You'll note, I'm a Bridgestone fan. The cost seems to be lower up front, and Bridgestone pays contingency in all classes for all ranks, including Novice. They haven't treated me badly yet, and I've always heard that their rains were the best, but you'll find someone saying that about every tire. :D (Anyone found the Tomahawk fan yet?)
Whatever brand you go with, if you suspect you'll need a set on a particular race weekend, call the vendor ahead of time so they get in a set and have them on the truck waiting just for you. Sucks to decide midway through Sat that you need them and the 30 other people with the same idea ahead of you beat you to the punch. There is only so much room in the truck after all.
I've heard the Michelin are the best rains also. its what I have but have no comparison to others. they work great. I'm pretty sure the Dunlops also work great because ScottyG went by like he wasn't having a problem last weekend. I think any of them are gonna be good and most of us would be hard pressed to say one is far and away better than another.
